This episode comes our way from Washington, D.C.’s Capital One Arena. Advertised for tonight: Cody vs. Sammy Guevara, MJF vs. Brandon Cutler, PAC vs. Hangman Page, Jon Moxley’s first appearance since pulling out of his match against Kenny Omega at All Out, and The Elite against Chris Jericho and Santana & Ortiz.

AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR OCT. 2
When are you gonna come down? When are you going to land? I should have stayed on the farm, I should have listened to my old man. You know you can’t hold me forever, I didn’t sign up with you. I’m not a present for your friends to open, I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens right into the intro video.
Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes are shown in passing in the front row as Jim Ross welcomes us to the show and introduces his broadcast partners, Excalibur and Tony Schiavone.
They talk up tonight’s matches before getting tossing to a video package for Cody Rhodes vs. Sammy Guevara.
Cody Rhodes vs. Sammy Guevara
Circling, collar and elbow, struggling around the ring, into the ropes and Rhodes breaks clean. Staring each other down, Guevara with a side headlock, shot off, drop down, leapfrog, back roll and a malfunction at the junction leads to a cover for one. Sammy trying a followup, Cody bails to the floor and takes a breather while Guevara taunts in the ring.
Back inside, Rhodes with a waistlock, standing switch, back elbow, off the ropes, leapfrog, back roll, Sammy nails him with a dropkick! Back roll moonsault... NOPE! Standing armbar, counter to a side headlock, Cody hits the takedown and wrenches it in. Jockeying for position, the American Nightmare snaps off a powerslam, spinning toehold to follow it and into the figure four leglock!
Guevara rolling, fighting, struggling to make the ropes, Cody rolls him back but he gets them again and forces the break. Arm wringer to follow, shoulder armbreaker, Rhodes diversifying his offense and targeting the arm. Desperate strikes from Sammy, Cody fires chops back, thinking delayed vertical suplex but he finishes with the gourdbuster! Cover for two, the tightest nearfall of the match yet!
Rhodes with push-ups while Guevara recovers, flexing when he’s finished, duck lariats, Sammy nails him with a crescent kick but Cody hits a springboard Ace Crusher... STILL NO! Jawing, drawing Guevara up, throwing him to the apron but Sammy hits a gamengiri for breathing room and follows with a springboard Ace Crusher of his own... NOT ENOUGH TO PUT THE GRANDSON OF A PLUMBER DOWN!
Charging in, shoulder thrust, enzuigiri connects but Cody’s able to blast him with a big boot! Guevara on the floor, Rhodes off the ropes... AND SAMMY PULLS BRANDI RHODES INTO CODY’S PATH! Capitalizing, ramming Rhodes back first into the post as “Asshole!” chants rain down, Guevara climbs up top... NOBODY HOME ON THE MOONSAULT, LAND ON HIS FEET, STANDING MOONSAULT, NOBODY HOME, LAND ON HIS FEET, RUNNING SHOOTING STAR PRESS BUT CODY KICKS OUT!
Backbreaker rack, Cody slips out, drop toehold hangs Sammy on the second rope, Brandi nails him in the face with one of her heels, Beautiful Disaster... GUEVARA’S STILL FIGHTING! Sammy out on his feet, back suplex lift sets him up in the corner, Rhodes climbs out after him, inverted facelock... INVERTED SUPERPLEX ISN’T ENOUGH! Underhooks, thinking Cop Killer, denied, back elbow out of the corner staggers Guevara.
Cody up top, Sammy springboards up after him... SPANISH FLY, STILL JUST TWO! SHOOTING STAR PRESS BUT THE KNEES ARE UP! Cody rolls him up...
Cody Rhodes wins by pinfall with a small package.
Post-match, Rhodes shakes Guevara’s hand... AND CHRIS JERICHO BLINDSIDES HIM AND BEATS HIM DOWN!
Sammy backs off, none of his business here, and Jericho whips Rhodes into a lariat! CODEBREAKER!
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, Jericho is still beating Rhodes down, holding a chair high at ringside.
A slap to follow it up, setting chairs up and doing some hardcore feng shui as referee Aubrey Edwards tries to warn him off... POWERBOMB THROUGH THE CHAIRS!
Chris stalks off up the ramp.
MJF gets on the mic during his entrance.
He says just in case you live under a rock or are poor, you’re looking at the youngest and fastest-rising star in the history of pro wrestling, and tonight we get the honor of watching a star being born as he goes one on one against a guy that got lost on his way to his seat. He says Cutler’s about to figure out that Dungeons & Dragons isn’t real, but MJF is better than him.
Brandon Cutler vs. Maxwell Jacob Friedman
Lockup, pushing him into the corner, break, Cutler up and over and he nails Friedman with a right hand! To the apron, front kick, slingshot Yoshi Tonic... NOPE! Fireman’s carry, MJF rakes the eyes to escape and rolls under the ropes for a moment’s safety. Brandon over, Max snaps his neck over the top rope and throws him shoulder-first into the ringpost before posing for the crowd.
Jawing, stomp to the hand, scoop and a slam, arm wringer, hanging in the ropes, so Friedman clubs his elbow. Cutler puts him to the floor, off the ropes, suicide dive into mounted punches on the ramp! Back inside, up top, his knee gives out and he falls down! Into the corner, MJF rocks him with a forearm and takes him down...
Maxwell Jacob Friedman wins by submission with Salt of the Earth.
MJF forces referee Bryce Remsburg to raise his hand and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes are interviewed at ringside.
Kev talks about Chris Jericho being in Jay & Silent Bob Reboot and how excited he is to be here tonight when Jack Evans and Angelico roll up. Evans tells Jay his hairstyle sucks, to which Jay tells them they’re not good enough to win a match. Los Gueros del Cielo are ready to fight but Private Party roll up to help Smith and Mewes out and the heels back off.
Commentary breaks the AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament bracket down for us.
SCU get a promo video where Scorpio Sky does his best Barack Obama impersonation while Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian act like secret service guards. The promo turns to dumping on Washington, DC and Daniels and Kazarian take over to put the group over.
Live in the arena, SCU are interviewed on the stage.
Sky says the big question for them has been which two of them will compete in the tournament, and they’ve decided he’ll sit this one out and let the four-time tag champs take charge.
Lucha Brothers interrupt and Rey Fenix gets on the mic. He just wants to remind them of one thing-- they’re the best tag team in the universe, and Penta el Zero M adds in a reminder that he’s Cero Miedo. He mists Daniels after and we got a brawl! Referees and security try to break it up, road agent Dean Malenko on hand and we go to break as they get separated.
Back from commercial, we see the Elite backstage stretching and getting ready for their six-man tonight before cutting to their opposite number, Chris Jericho and LAX.
We get entrances for Adam Page vs. PAC and go to break before the match.
“Hangman” Adam Page vs. PAC
The match in progress, PAC slides back in the ring, upkick, trading forearms with Page and standing firm in the middle of the ring. Adam gets the better of the exchange but gets caught by a rolling solebutt off the ropes. Trading kicks, discus lariat from the Hangman takes the Bastard down! More forearms from Page, chops, PAC bails and meets him with a front kick on the floor but soon gets thrown into the barricade!
Hangman throws him into another barricade after, PAC gets him in the ring and Adam immediately comes off with a suicide dive to take him out! Up on the apron, the Bastard clobbers him but Page gets in the ring after and hits a fallaway slam! Kip up, fired up, running shooting star press, only two! Straight suplex, float over, forearm to the back of the head!
Back body drop to the apron, kick to the throat, Page to the floor and PAC follows after. Smashing his face into the apron, slingshot stomp, Asai Moonsault connects! Back inside, referee Earl Hebner getting in the Bastard’s face to warn him while he’s on the apron, springboard 450 splash... STILL NO! Frustrated PAC snaps off a rolling solebutt, following it with a stomp and a hesitation dropkick!
Headed up top, Hangman desperately crawls to meet him, jockeying for position, avalanche fallaway slam! Running dropkick in the corner, Page running hot, off the ropes, scoop lift into an Ace Crusher... NO DEAL! PAC throws him shoulder-first into the post and we go to break.
Back from commercial, PAC is in control, jawing at Page and roaring at the crowd. Forehead to forehead, Hangman recovers, rush of palm strikes, off the ropes, big thrust spinebuster connects! Roll through, thinking Deadeye, PAC gets the ropes, to the apron, springboard... RIGHT INTO A DISCUS LARIAT! Hangman with a powerbomb... NOT ENOUGH! The Bastard rolls to the floor, Page readjusts... ORIHARA MOONSAULT CONNECTS!
Back inside, slingshot, Buckshot denied, waistlock, Earl Hebner caught against the ropes and PAC mule kicks Adam right in the gentleman’s area! Headed up top... BLACK ARROW SHADOWS OVER HELL STYLE! Rings of Saturn applied...
PAC wins by submission with the Brutalizer.
Hebner manages to pry the Bastard off the Hangman after a tense moment.
Britt Baker makes her entrance to join the commentary desk for our AEW Women’s World Championship match, for which we get our entrances and go to break.
Nyla Rose vs. Riho (AEW Women’s World Championship)
Jockeying for position, Riho laying forearms in but Rose clobbers her with hammer fists. Riho with a series of dropkicks, staggering Nyla, whip reversed, duck a back elbow, tijeras sends Rose flying! Off the ropes, pounce from Nyle, jawing, big splash for a deep two but Riho bridges out of the cover and puts boots to her! Off the ropes, double stomp but Rose pushes up and shoves her off!
Putting boots to her in the ropes, choking over the middle, snapmare, leg pick into an STF in the middle of the ring! Riho crawling, reaching, desperate for the ropes but Nyla cranks back on the facelock! Stretching... SHE GETS THE ROPES! Rose breaks clean at referee Paul Turner’s behest, delayed vertical suplex, Riho floats out of it, waistlock, back elbow throws her off.
Nyla with a waistlock of her own, Riho out off the ropes, back elbow, running knee, and a second knee sends Rose to the floor! Riho heading up top, she perches... DIVING CROSSBODY BUT NYLA CATCHES HER WITH EASE! BACKBREAKER ON THE FLOOR! Rose gets a chair out from under the ring, Turner grabs it from her and Riho recovers enough to fire off some forearms!
Thrown into the barricade for her trouble, a second time, Nyla gets a bunch of chairs this time and scatters them on the floor, earning a stern talking to from referee Paul Turner as she puts Riho in the chairs and heads up on the apron... SENTON ATOMICO INTO THE CHAIRS BUT RIHO ROLLED AWAY! Riho heads up on the apron and lines her up... DIVING DOUBLE STOMP!
Back inside, Riho perches, diving double stomp to the back... NOT ENOUGH! Seated crossface applied, Rose pulling her grip down to relieve the pressure as we go to break.
Back from commercial, Rose is in control, breaking an STF and clutching Riho for a powerbomb. Reversal blocked, Riho’s legs give out from under her and Nyla draws her up again. Riho with desperate forearms, Rose drops her with one in return! More forearms, off the ropes, a boot lays her right out! Powerbomb lift, Riho fights out roll-through into a side clutch... SO CLOSE!
Falling lariat from Rose, fireman’s carry... DEATH VALLEY DRIVER SPIKES HER BUT IT’S NOT ENOUGH! Nyla climbing up top, Riho stirs as she perches and cuts her off. Climbing to join her, laying forearm after forearm in, jockeying for position, Riho suplexes her... NO GOOD! Roll away from the running knee, Riho hits a second to the back of her head...
Riho wins by pinfall with running knees to the face to win the AEW Women’s World Championship.
Post-match, Michael Nakazawa hits the ring to congratulate Riho and interview her in Japanese for the Japanese fans-- AND NYLA BLINDSIDES BOTH OF THEM! POWERBOMB FOR NAKAZAWA! To the apron, she’s got Riho but Kenny Omega makes the save!
The Young Bucks enter for our main event and we go to break.
Chris Jericho & EYFBO (Ortiz & Santana) vs. the Elite (Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson, & Nick Jackson)
Omega and Santana to start, but Jericho wants in the match and gets his wish. Canadians squaring up, Omega wants some and Y2J tags right back out to Santana again and bails. Kenny with forearms, whip reversed, front kick, big chop, EYFBO man with a thrust to the midsection and gets a Kotaro Crusher in return! Ortiz in, Omega snaps off a Frankensteiner to send him out and Jericho comes in with chops.
Off the ropes, thinking Frankensteiner but Chris reverses into the Walls of Jericho and the Bucks come in! SUPERKICK PARTY! Tag to Matt, off the ropes, slingshot dropkick and Nick hits a corkscrew tope over his brother! Omega calling for it, feeling frisky... JON MOXLEY IS HERE! MOX LINES HIM UP FROM BEHIND AND LIGHTS HIM UP WITH FOREARMS! Dumping Kenny to the floor, putting boots to him, over the barricade they go and they fight off into the crowd!
Cameras follow Moxley as he drags Omega further back into the crowd but the Cleaner gets a mop, appropriately enough, and uses it to even the odds! Mox turns it back aorund, ramming Kenny’s head into a door a bunch, pulling him in... DEATH RIDER THROUGH A GLASS COFFEE TABLE! WE GOTTA GO TO BREAK!
Back from commercial, Ortiz is beating Matt Jackson down and he makes the tag to Santana. Straight suplex, quick tag back to Ortiz. Off the ropes, Matt back body drops Santana to the floor and spears Ortiz! Back inside, double teams all over Jackson, Ortiz with a falling headbutt to finish the sequence, only two! Jericho legal, Lionsault... MATT GETS THE KNEES UP!
Santana in, Matt with a northern lights suplex, rolling it into a second, and then he hits a double one one both members of EYFBO! Tag to Nick, clear the apron, forearms and kicks for everybody as he fights EYFBO off all by himself! Taking the fight to the floor, springboard senton atomico! Tag to Matt, they got Santana where they want him but Jericho hits a Codebreaker on Nick!
EYFBO running roughshod over Matt, Jericho lines him up...
Chris Jericho & EYFBO win by pinfall with the Judas Effect from Jericho on Matt Jackson.
Post-match, Cody runs in and attacks Jericho! He puts boots to him until Sammy Guevara comes down for a low blow! DUSTIN RHODES MAKES THE SAVE! SNAPS SCOOP POWERSLAM AND A LOW BLOW! JACK SWAGGER ATTACKS GOLDUST AND HITS HIS HIGH ANGLE SPINNING SPINEBUSTER! LARIATS FOR EVERYBODY FROM SWAGGER! SWAGGER BOMB!
The heels pile the defeated babyfaces in the middle of the ring and stand tall. They drag the timekeeper’s podium into the ring, Swagger picks Dustin up... DOCTOR BOMB INTO THE PODIUM! They drag Cody to his feet and Jericho slaps him a few times... JUDAS EFFECT!
The heels stand tall.
