Women’s Royal Rumble Match

Winner gets a title match at WrestleMania

Tonight (Sun., Jan. 27, 2019) is the second annual women’s Royal Rumble match. Last year was about proving that the women could deliver a Rumble that was just as exciting, surprising and ridiculous as the men’s. Last year also marked the beginning of Ronda Rousey’s career in WWE. Considering these two defining moments in the history of WWE’s women’s Evolution, it only makes sense that they build on their history tonight.

Plus, they have been teasing a four horsewomen of WWE versus four horsewomen of MMA since before the MMA women were signed to WWE, pitting Ronda against one (or all) of the WWE horsewomen seems like a seamless transition into such a hotly anticipated feud

Now if you’re saying to yourself “gee Stella, Sasha and Becky already have matches. Surly they won’t also be in the Rumble” then technically you are correct. At the time of writing the current entrants are as follows:

  1. Natalya
  2. Bayley
  3. Ember Moon
  4. Lacey Evans
  5. Alexa Bliss
  6. Ruby Riott
  7. Sarah Logan
  8. Liv Morgan
  9. Mickie James
  10. Alicia Fox
  11. Mandy Rose
  12. Sonya Deville
  13. Zelina Vega
  14. Charlotte Flair
  15. Naomi
  16. Tamina
  17. Peyton Royce
  18. Billie Kay
  19. Dana Brooke
  20. Lana
  21. Nia Jax
  22. Nikki Cross
  23. Carmella (entering at slot 30)

That means there are seven open slots for surprise entrances. Becky and Sasha entering the match in addition to their championship matches is not unheard of.

The way I see it there are four timelines.

Bayley wins.

She is the horsewomen who has notably not had a feud with Ronda. If she wins the Rumble she gets thrust into the Mania spotlight after a not so fantastic year, gets a chance to prove herself again to the WWE universe and reestablish herself as a rightful member of the 4HW. This is the least likely of the scenarios, but still plausible.

Sasha Banks wins.

Let’s say Sasha loses to Ronda in their championship match, but only just loses. Imagine her strolling into the Rumble and immediately earning her rematch on the grandest stage of them all. It’s legit the most BOSS thing I could think of.

Charlotte Flair wins.

I mean, it’s Charlotte Flair. Not only does she deliver in every big, specialty match she is in, but she has unfinished business with Rousey. There has been a lot of talk that the women are going to main event WrestleMania this year and I simply can’t imagine a world where Charlotte is not involved in such a historic moment.

Becky Lynch wins.

This is my favorite timeline. Everyone knows that the heat between Becky and Ronda has been building for months. They never got their one on one match due to an epic injury, but that didn’t stop them from keeping their feud hot. In a dream world, Becky wins her match against Asuka, regaining her SmackDown women’s championship. She then enters the Rumble, wins and challenges Ronda. Champion versus Champion main eventing WrestleMania. Your brain hurts just thinking of how awesome that would be doesn’t it?

This timeline also works if Becky loses to Asuka minus the champion versus champion thing. Would still be great, just maybe not as epic.

Mania fallout

Regardless of the horsewoman facing Ronda the stage is set at Mania for the fallout to finally focus on the 4HW feud. If Ronda loses she can turn heel and bring up her pals Shayna...and I want to say Mary and Jessica...to face off against Becky, Bayley, Sasha and Charlotte.

*chef kiss*

Course, Alexa Bliss is in this match too so Vince may just say “EFF IT” and have her win. But that’s what makes the Rumble great. You never know what surprises they have in store!
