Welcome back to the Sermon on the Mat, your weekly one-stop shop for news from the wider world of wrestling beyond the big cable TV monoliths that get all the coverage.
Coming soon...
CMLL Super Viernes (Jan. 11, 9:30PM Eastern)
- Cancerbero, Disturbio, & Raziel vs. Robin, Star, Jr., & Super Astro, Jr.
- Drone, Esfinge, & Guerrero Maya, Jr. vs. El Sagrado, Kawato San, & Tiger
- El Felino vs. Polvora (Lightning Match)
- Blue Panther, Rey Cometa, & Triton vs. Mascara Ano 2000, Rey Bucanero, & Shocker
- Gorilas del Ring (Kraneo & Volcano) & Stuka, Jr. vs. Los Hijos del Infierno (Ephesto, Luciferno, & Mephisto)
- El Valiente, Euforia, & Niebla Roja vs. Los Ingobernables (Bestia del Ring & Rush) & Villano IV
CMLL are back in Mexico City’s legendary Arena Mexico for your weekly Friday night dose of lucha libre action and, uh... well let’s just say you can tell that most of the best parts of the roster are in Japan for Fantastica Mania. Villano IV is working the show, for Pete’s sake! But hey, the lightning match should be fun, and you genuinely never know if any given show is going to be your last chance to see the likes of Villano and Mascara 2000 work, so it’s not completely without merit here, folks.
Check it out, as always, free for nothin’ on Marca Claro, folks, and the VOD will go up on CMLL’s YouTube channel (where they also stream shows every Monday and Tuesday free of charge) after the fact for those of you who can’t watch live.
Freelance vs. GCW (Jan. 11, 8PM Central)
- Alex Colon vs. Chris Castro vs. Danger Mask vs. Elliott Paul vs. G-Raver vs. Orin Veidt (Scramble Match)
- Alex Ohlson & Matt Knicks vs. Jimmy Lloyd & Tony Deppen
- Acid Jaz, GPA, & Marshe Rockett vs. John Wayne Murdoch, KTB, & Reed Bentley
- Markus Crane & SHLAK vs. WorkHorsemen (Anthony Henry & James Drake)
- Aero Boy vs. Eric Ryan vs. Isaias Velazquez
- Gringo Loco vs. “Spyder” Nate Webb
- Matt Tremont vs. Ruff Crossing
- Darin Corbin vs. Nick Gage
Freelance are back in Chicago, Illinois, and they’re bringing GCW with them! From the top of the card to the bottom, it’s a nearly nonstop interpromotional war. Obvious standouts to my eyes include Loco/Webb, Corbin/Gage, and that trios match, but it should all go down pretty smooth, folks.
Get your tickets here or check it out live on FITE, folks.
RPW New Year’s Resolution (Jan. 11, 7PM GMT)
- Great O-Kharn vs. MK McKinnan
- Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis) vs. Hunter Brothers (Jim & Lee Hunter) (RPW British Tag Team Championship #1 Contender’s Match)
- Chris Ridgeway vs. “Switchblade” Jay White
- Chris Brookes vs. Will Ospreay
- Shigehiro Irie vs. Zack Sabre, Jr.
- Yuu vs. Zoe Lucas (c) (RPW British Women’s Championship)
- David Starr (c) vs. Kip Sabian (RPW British Cruiserweight Championship)
RevPro are in Guildford and their main resolution for the new year appears to be to keep on bringing top talent in for big matches from the looks of it! ZSJ has a big non-title challenge in Irie, Yuu gets her revenge for Queen of the Ring in the form of a title shot, Ridgeway takes on the Switchblade, and RevPro’s weird bias against David Starr continues as he’s pit against Kip Sabian in a match where the title can change hands on a countout.
Get your tickets here or check it out when it hits RPW On Demand, folks.
EVE She Who Dares, Wins (Jan. 12, 8PM GMT)
- EVE Battlebowl
Info on the card for EVE’s return to London is slim on the ground, but the theme of the show is opportunity, former Sendai Girls tag champ Heidi Katrina will be making her debut, and they’re holding their first-ever Battlebowl, so that’s got some intrigue to it, folks.
Tickets are sold out, but you can of course check this show out when it hits VOD on EVE on Demand.
Free matches here!
Danika Della Rouge vs. Priscilla Kelly
Some throwback action from the fine folks up at Defy this week. Hell’s Favorite Harlot (and everyone’s favorite center of silly controversy of late) Priscilla Kelly takes on local Danika Della Rouge, check it out!
Janelope (Joey Janela & Penelope Ford) vs. LAX (Angel Ortiz & Mike “Santana” Draztik)
From the good people over at Beyond who are bumping their free match production up upwards of five a week, we’ve got some tag team action featuring four of the hottest names in tag team wrestling today! The Bad Boy teams up with the Bad Girl against two men dedicated to Entertaining Your [REDACTED] Brains Out, don’t miss it!
Jordan Devlin vs. Scotty Davis
From the good people over at Ireland’s OTT, we’ve got the Import Killer Jordan Devlin having a match against a man that is... not an import at all! Enjoy!

- PAC over Zack Sabre, Jr. (c) by disqualification (RPW British Heavyweight Championship)
Sammii Jayne is Queen of the Ring with a little help from RPW British Women’s Champion Zoe Lucas, who took Yuu out with a title belt shot in the semis to avenge her first round loss, folks. Plus PAC has found an unlikely ally in his High Stakes opponent Will Ospreay, who made the save after ZSJ got himself disqualified in the main and continued beating on The Man That Gravity Forgot.
Check the VOD out on RPW On Demand, folks.
As always...
Remember folks, no matter what type of wrestling you like, no matter how down you feel about the state of WWE, Impact, ROH, or any other “big-time” pro wrestling, there’s something out there for you. There’s a pro wrestling product that can hit you in the right spot and make you love wrestling like you thought you’d never be able to love it again. It’s there, I promise. You just gotta reach out and find it, and that, my friends, is what the Sermon on the Mat is all about.
