The Mixed Match Challenge returns with teams already set

New, comments

A busy fall for WWE just got busier.

WWE announced tonight (Sept. 4) during SmackDown Live that the Mixed Match Challenge will return in just two weeks on Sept. 18 just after SmackDown. This is the second season of the Facebook Watch exclusive show that first aired earlier this year in the lead up to WrestleMania.

Unlike last season, when they slowly released the participating teams, this time they just dumped all the information in our lap. There are some returning teams, including last year’s winners in Miz & Asuka, and some teams that make sense, like Carmella & R-Truth, who have been telling a little story on Tuesday nights. But some are just random.

Here’s the full list of 10 teams, with five Raw teams and five SmackDown teams:

  • The Miz & Asuka
  • Jimmy Uso & Naomi
  • Rusev & Lana
  • AJ Styles & Charlotte Flair
  • R-Truth & Carmella
  • Braun Strowman & Alexa Bliss
  • Bobby Lashley & Sasha Banks
  • Finn Bálor & Bayley
  • Jinder Mahal & Alicia Fox
  • Kevin Owens & Natalya

Noticeable in their absence are tandems like Brie Bella and Daniel Bryan as well is Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega. (In my opinion, leaving Almas & Vega off the list is the definition of “Doing it wrong.”)

It’s also interesting that the other member of the Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection gets to team with Finn Balor this time while Sasha is now teaming with Bobby Lashley. Bayley and Finn Bálor had some great moments together in NXT so that should be a fun team.

Mixed Match Challenge starts on Sept. 18, which is just two weeks away. It’s more content for an already busy fall for WWE, who already have the the Mae Young Classic, Hell in a Cell, the Australian Super Show-Down, and Evolution.
