New Japan Pro Wrestling Fighting Spirit Unleashed results: Chaos vs. Golden Lovers, Cody vs. Juice, and more

New Japan Pro Wrestling

New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) are back in the United States again for Fighting Spirit Unleashed, bridging the gap between Destruction and King of Pro-Wrestling. Like all of New Japan’s other major events (and unlike the previous US shows that were broadcast on AXS live in North America), this show will be broadcast worldwide on New Japan's streaming service, NJPW World and will air on AXS on tape delay on Friday, Oct. 5.

We'll have the standard match recommendation post later for those of you who can’t tune in live for whatever reason, but if you can, why not watch along with the best pro wrestling community on the internet?

Today’s action takes place in Long Beach’s Walter Pyramid, kicking off at an eminently reasonable 8PM Eastern / 5PM Pacific, and features a main event of the Golden Lovers of Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi vs. a Chaos team of Kazuchika Okada and Tomohiro Ishii. Can Chaos put a united front together against the IWGP Heavyweight Champion and his man even as Okada’s status with them is completely up in the air?

Plus Marty Scurll and Will Ospreay meet in a first-round match in the tournament to crown a new IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, the Young Bucks defend their IWGP Tag Team Championship against Gorillas of Destiny, and Juice Robinson defends his IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship against Cody Rhodes.

ACH, Jushin Liger, & Ryusuke Taguchi over Roppongi 3K (Rocky Romero, SHO, & YOH) by pinfall with Dodon from Taguchi on SHO.

SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) over Bullet Club (Chase Owens & Hangman Page) by pinfall with the Best Meltzer Ever on Owens.

Chris Sabin, Flip Gordon, & Jeff Cobb over Chaos (Beretta, Chuckie T, & Hirooki Goto) by pinfall with Tour of the Islands from Cobb on Taylor.

Post-match, Cobb and Goto get into it and have to be kept apart before a shockingly loud “Let them fight!” chant goes up!

Suzuki-gun (Davey Boy Smith, Jr., Lance Archer, & Zack Sabre, Jr.) over Los Ingobernables de Japon (EVIL, SANADA, & Tetsuya Naito) by pinfall with the European Clutch from Sabre on EVIL.

Chaos (Gedo & “Switchblade” Jay White) over Hiroshi Tanahashi & KUSHIDA by pinfall with Blade Runner from White on Tanahashi.

Switchblade gets on the mic and asks what the unconscious Tanahashi is waiting for. He proceeds to demand a shot at the G1 Climax 28 winner’s briefcase by right of his victory in the tournament, claiming that he and New Japan are both scared that he’ll beat him again and they can’t face the thought of him not being in the main event at Wrestle Kingdom 13, much less two foreigners being in said main event. He closes saying it’s inevitable that everyone will breathe with the Switchblade in the new era.

Marty Scurll over Will Ospreay by pinfall with the Graduation. (IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Tournament Semifinal Match)

Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) over Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) (c) by pinfall with a double-team Gun Stun on Matt to win the IWGP Tag Team Championship.

Cody Rhodes over Juice Robinson (c) by pinfall, turning a superplex into a small package to win the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.

Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi) over Chaos (Kazuchika Okada & Tomohiro Ishii) by pinfall with the Golden Trigger on Ishii.

Post-match Kenny talks about how it wasn’t a great night for all of the Bucks but people want to see the rematch between him and Ibushi, and even though they had a promise, he wants to have the reatch in one week at King of Pro-Wrestling!

Before Kota can answer, Cody snatches the mic and says he wants to take the burden from both of them and he does so by polling the crowd to see if they want the rematch. They do, and he and Omega are cool, he and Ibushi are getting there... HE WANTS A THREE-WAY!

Omega calls Rhodes back in and puts him over for having an ingenious idea. They want to make history and right the wrong, and there’s been a triple threat for the IWGP before, so why not do it again? IT’S ON!

Enjoy the show!
