Rumor Roundup (Sept. 17, 2018): Hardy retirement, HBK plans, Hell in a Cell change, more!

Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the Day:

  • It does look like Matt Hardy’s in-ring career is over. Wrestling Observer says he only worked the last few weeks in order to make all this advertised dates.
  • Two matches are being considered for Shawn Michaels at Survivor Series, per Ringside News: vs. The Undertaker or a tag match with Triple H against Taker and Kane.
  • According to one of WrestleVote’s sources, the Hell in a Cell cage was painted red because Vince wanted to make a noticable change since the match has been around for more than 20 years, similar to dropping Roman numerals from WrestleManias.
  • That Twitter account also says the SmackDown before WrestleMania “won’t be a typical show” when the brand moves to Fox and Fridays. WWE won’t try to put on a normal episode two days before the event.
  • Nia Jax was backstage at Hell in a Cell last night in San Antonio, says PW Insider.
