10,000 fans bought in to ALL IN without a full talent roster announced and not a single match official when tickets went on sale.
It was a big moment, to be sure, and proved some significant things about wrestling outside of WWE and its place in the country.
We’ve since seen seven matches announced for the show and, while I’m still intrigued, interested and even excited for ALL IN, I am a bit underwhelmed.
It’s not that the card is bad by any means, it’s simply lacking the kind of stand out, can’t miss matches I think were the expectation for such a revolutionary event.
Okada vs. Scurll is interesting, even if it doesn’t stand out to me as the most exciting use of Okada. The six-man match with Golden Elite vs. Rey Mysterio, Bandido and Fenix certainly feels like it could steal the show. And I have some high hopes for Janela vs. Page.
But Cody Rhodes vs. Nick Aldis doesn’t get my blood pumping. And Christopher Daniels vs. Stephen Amell? Meh.
- Nick Aldis (c) vs. Cody Rhodes (NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship)
- The Golden Elite vs. Rey Mysterio & Fenix & Bandido
- Kazuchika Okada vs. Marty Scurll
- Joey Janela vs. Hangman Page
- Christopher Daniels vs. Stephen Amell
- Over The Budget Battle Royal
- The Briscoe Brothers vs. SoCal Uncensored
I may be wrong, the card could deliver in a huge way, and the live crowd will certainly add a great atmosphere but it feels like it needs a few big splash matches to get to the level many were expecting.
There’s probably something to be said about not needing to book the wildest show possible and still bring in the fans.
But I remain a bit unsure if this is the level of card I was expecting.
Of course ... there is that rumor of Penta vs. Omega. And that’s a match worth paying a lot of money to see.
- A few more matches were added to ALL IN yesterday.
- We’ve got recap and reactions as well as highlights for last night’s edition of Raw.
- Paul Heyman was in rare form during his segment on Raw, and we’re appreciating it.
- Are we going to see Dean Ambrose return at SummerSlam?
- Make sure you join us tonight for our SmackDown live blog.
- John Cena has a new finisher — no, really!
- Oh, and circling back to ALL IN, the show will air on PPV.
It’s Tuesday, we’ve got a lot of week ahead of us, so don’t get too excited.
