Fresh off Aztec Warfare 4, Lucha Underground is coming at you tonight with the hot main event bout of Pentagon DARK against Matanza for the Lucha Underground championship, which airs at 8pm ET on El Rey Network.

If you missed last week’s show, get caught up with the recap and reactions, the Tope 10, and a snazzy summary video from the Lucha Underground YouTube channel.

Here are three things I’ve got my eye on for this episode.

1. Pentagon DARK vs Matanza

Let’s start with Pentagon DARK. I’ve felt that his record in the past hasn’t lived up to the hype. However, a win in Aztec Warfare 4 and a relatively clean win against Matanza would pretty much be the best the show could do to convince me in such a short time that Pentagon is now a number one man. Those two wins could arguably be the biggest any wrestler could achieve in the Temple, especially in back to back weeks.

Also, what’s up with Pentagon’s tongue in that promotional image? Good thing Matanza has his mask on, otherwise, he might bite Pentagon’s tongue and rip it out of his mouth.

As for Matanza, I’m curious how he will act and react. His character has many questions. Does Matanza know Dario is dead? If so, will he show signs of sadness? Or perhaps tremendous rage in an unhinged effort for vengeance? Could that play a factor in his focus during tonight’s match? What kind of relationship will Matanza have with his father? Even though Dario took full advantage of Matanza’s god-like abilities, Dario still tried to keep his brother under control so as to not lose what’s left of his humanity. I get the feeling that Antonio won’t care if his last remaining son is fully engulfed by the god spirit. Antonio might even try to push for that outcome.

On to the match itself. Antonio Cueto booked the winning Pentagon DARK, “In a match even more violent than the one you just survived.” Is that phrasing to hype up Matanza’s ability for destruction or will there be a stipulation involved?

2. Trios action

Based on #triosmatch and that the Trios champs are in the background of that photo, I’m going to go out on a limb and predict a Trios championship bout. The question is who will challenge. Famous B is front and center, so does that mean Texano and Dr. Wagner Jr. as 23 of the team? Will Wagner have his mask? Does Famous B have a new client in his stable or will he be a lackluster option as the third partner?

This will be Son of Havoc’s first match with his new teammates. Will they gel nicely or splinter quickly? I’m not expecting much cohesion due to Killshot’s poor attitude. Mack seems like he’ll have to be the one to hold the team together.

El Dragon Azteca Jr. and Drago are also advertised for the show, but their role is not clear. They might be in on the trios match, or maybe we will be treated to a DRAGON FIGHT!

3. Feuds

Aztec Warfare 4 planted seeds for feuds new and old. I doubt Kobra Moon is done with Johnny Mundo. How many slimy reptiles will Worldwide Underground have to stomp? A future 4 vs 4 match would be a dandy.

At the time last week, their past history didn’t register to me when Fenix eliminated Mil Muertes from Aztec Warfare 4. Could they revisit that bitter rivalry once again?

Those are just two feuds off the top of my head. That doesn’t include rotten beef still festering from Ultima Lucha Tres. I’m hoping for at least three backstage scenes to give us an idea which direction luchadores will be heading.

Enjoy the show tonight at 8pm ET on El Rey Network. Who’s your pick to win the main event? Do you expect the Trios champs to retain or go down in flames? What are some stories you would like to see addressed in backstage scenes tonight?

El Rey is available via the cable and satellite providers list on their webpage here. If one of those is your hook-up and you can’t find the channel on your box, reach out to them and ask for it. If you don’t see your provider listed or you’ve cut the cord, you can order the episodes on iTunes here and on Amazon here. Seasons one and two are available on Netflix here.
