Dana White: ‘It should be a wrap’ for CM Punk in UFC

MMA: UFC 225-Punk vs Jackson Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

CM Punk was thoroughly beaten in both of his fights in the UFC, a first round loss at the hands of Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in Sept. 2016 and then a unanimous decision defeat to Mike Jackson at UFC 225 just last night (June 9, 2018) in Chicago. He managed to make it to the scorecards in his second fight but he was hardly competitive.

It’s worth asking, then, if UFC President Dana White is going to bring him back for another go at it, assuming Punk would want such a thing. It sure doesn’t sound like that’s the case, based on White’s comments at the post-fight press conference:

“It should be a wrap. The guy is 39 years old. I love the guy, he’s the nicest guy in the world. We gave him two shots and he had a lot of heart tonight in this fight and, yeah, I think he should call it a wrap. ... He got clipped a lot in that fight tonight. It looked like he was hurt bad a couple of times. He stayed in there, he went for three rounds.”

While White had nothing but nice things to say about Punk, he was incredibly unhappy with Jackson for his performance, saying “I got the sense that he’s a complete fucking idiot and I couldn’t wait for that fight to end. I regret not putting it on Fight Pass.” He was so upset, White made it clear Jackson won’t be welcomed back in the UFC.

That, then, appears to be that, and it’s probably for the best.
