Kazuchika Okada breaks the IWGP Heavyweight Championship defense record, challenges Kenny Omega for number thirteen

Unlike NJPW Wrestling Dontaku’s other happenings (check full results here) today, this one doesn’t come as much of a surprise, folks.

After a hard-fought eleventh match in a rivalry has defined the modern era of New Japan Pro Wrestling, Kazuchika Okada put Hiroshi Tanahashi away, defending the IWGP Heavyweight Championship for a record-setting twelfth time. It was very much the match you’d expect them to have at this point in their rivalry, slow and steady early and building to a crescendo of reversals and callbacks until at last the Rainmaker landed true and kept the old ace down for a three count.

For his impressive achievement, Mr. Okada was presented with a certificate for one free year of food at show sponsor Hamakatsu, which is pretty neat.

After the match, the Rainmaker put Tanahashi over and ran through the list of men he’s defeated to get to this point and wondering who might challenge him next before calling Kenny Omega out! The Best Bout Machine came to the ring and Okada continued, saying they’re even and this time there will be no time limit. Omega says there’s something even better they can do... he wants two out of three falls and the Rainmaker accepted!

There you have it, folks

Everybody excited for Omega/Okada IV as a two out of three falls match with no time limit at Dominion, Cagesiders?
