Welcome to the weekly Rumor Look Back, where we look at the rumors from six months ago and see which played out as originally predicted. Let’s get right to it.
- Pro Wrestling Sheet’s James McKenna is saying a Shield reunion will take place at TLC next month, apparently to boost ticket sales.
- It was advertised as such so I’m going to count it as correct, though it didn’t actually happen due to Roman contracting a viral infection. (1/1)
- The Miz TV segment set-up at No Mercy for tonight will be the start of the angle, which may lead to a PPV match between The Shield and The Miztourage.
- Also true. I’m still disappointed the way they brought the Shield back to face the random team of the Miztourage, the Bar, and Kane. (1/1)
- Roman Reigns win at No Mercy likely means his program with John Cena was a one-match feud.
- It was. (1/1)
- Cena will be taking time off to fulfill other obligations. He’s currently advertised for Survivor Series, but may not be back until 2018.
- I’m not entirely sure how to read this. I’m reading this as “Even though he’s advertised for Survivor Series, he won’t be back until 2018.” And that’s incorrect since he was at Survivor Series. (0/1)
- Billy Corgan’s ownership of the NWA officially begins Oct. 1, per PWInsider. It’s not clear what it will be yet, but whatever it is will be guided by Corgan and former TNA writer Dave Lagana.
- Right now the promotion is represented with YouTube title matches taped at different promotions. Nick Aldis (fka Magnus) is the current champion.
- While they knew Braun Strowman was the hot act heading into No Mercy, according to Wrestling Observer WWE stuck to its original booking as part of the long term plan for Brock Lesnar to put over Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34.
- We’ll have to wait a week to see if that’s how it ends up playing out. Sure looks that way though.
- Finn Bálor is being positioned as Lesnar’s next challenger, likely at Survivor Series or Royal Rumble.
- Finn was pushed down the card, and this match didn’t happen. Brock faced AJ Styles (non-title) at Survivor Series and both Kane & Braun Strowman at the Royal Rumble. Kane got a win over Finn easily during that build. (0/1)
- Cesaro received a standing ovation backstage after finishing his match at No Mercy with his front teeth pushed up into his jaw, per Wrestling Inc’s Matt Morgan.
- That’s hardcore.
- PW Insider is saying “all signs” point to Paige having been cleared and she is expected to return next month on SmackDown.
- While she did return, it was in November and on Raw. Unfortunately, this is a sad situation because within this six month period, she returned and then was injured again so badly that rumor has it that it could be a career ender. (0/2)
- If Monday Night Raw viewership continues to sag, Stephanie McMahon may be brought back to television.
- It looks like it slumps a couple more weeks and then they did the Shield bits and things turned around. Steph returned after the ratings were already better. (0/1)
- Per the Observer, Enzo Amore gave 205 Live a one week boost in viewership but it went back to normal just after.
- And now he’s gone from the company.
- There’s some belief that Jeff Hardy may not wrestle again until WrestleMania 34 next year. Dave Meltzer indicated he’s still dealing with a knee issue in addition to his shoulder problems.
- I’m going to mark this as correct. If he wrestles tomorrow, I’ll change it. (1/1)
- WWE has opted not to sign Crazzy Steve, per the Observer.
- That’s true. He’s not in WWE. I wondered for a bit if he’d return to Impact for a Decay reunion, but Rosemary is doing well solo and Abyss is doing his own thing currently. Still, I’d like to see them together again one day. (1/1)
- According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Vince McMahon was not happy about the Bullet Club’s invasion of Raw on Monday, which could explain this report.
- We never heard anything officially and I don’t expect to. Maybe on a podcast from a wrestler who’s gone with WWE. It got Jimmy Jacobs fired, but that wasn’t surprising, even to Jimmy himself.
- If Brock Lesnar re-signs, WWE hopes to return to the feud between him and Braun Strowman after WrestleMania 34.
- I guess we’ll find out. Chael Sonnen said on Talk is Jericho that he thinks that Brock will re-sign because of he’d have to wait to long to fight in UFC given his suspension. But we’ll see.
- Rock ‘n’ Roll Express vs. The Club will happen at Starrcade, per PWInsider.
- That match didn’t happen, though the legends made an appearance. (0/1)
- That site also confirms there are no plans to broadcast or stream the event. It’s only a house show for that market.
- I still find that lame. But I suppose if they wanted to sell tickets, making attending the only way to see it would make sense. (1/1)
- Tessa Blanchard may be signing with Impact, according to Insider. If she does, she’ll likely debut at the post-Bound for Glory taping in Ottawa.
- She has not. (0/1)
- While it’s clear a Shield reunion is in the works, the Miztourage may not end up being their opponents.
- They weren’t technically in the 5 on 3 match that was advertised. Miz was, but the ‘Tourage wasn’t. (1/1)
- John Cena is scheduled to be back for Survivor Series, per the Observer.
- He was. The Face that Runs the place was rather inconsequential in that match. (1/1)
- According to the Observer, there’s talk of Kaitlyn coming back to WWE.
- She has not. She wasn’t even in the Women’s Rumble as a surprise. (0/1)
- The Observer notes the ROH Final Battle main event could be Cody vs. Dalton Castle for the title.
- That was the match, and the Party Peacock won the title. (1/1)
- The Observer notes Vince McMahon specifically wanted to keep the Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman match in the ring and that’s part of why it was the match it was.
- It was underwhelming.
- His big idea is for Lesnar to beat everyone with one F-5 while Reigns looks as strong as possible until they meet at WrestleMania 34.
- It sure looks that way.
- Kurt Angle has yet to take a physical to wrestle for WWE but there’s plenty of talk his wrestling return will start or begin being teased around Royal Rumble.
- It was within a month at TLC. (0/1)
- PW Insider notes Alberto El Patron will be getting a big push when he returns to Impact.
- He in the main event right now, but when he got back, I wouldn’t say he received a huge push. He was towards the top of the card, but so were a handful of other guys. (0/1)
