WrestleMania-24-logo.0.jpg

It’s Wrestlemania XXIV! Wrestlemania XXIV emanated from the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida, and the commentators are Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler for Raw, Jonathan Coachman and Michael Cole for SmackDown, and Joey Styles and Tazz for ECW. The theme songs are "Light It Up" by Rev Theory and "Snow (Hey Oh) by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Finlay vs. JBL in a Belfast Brawl match:

Match Analysis: JBL immediately attacks Finlay to start the match. JBL has the advantage for a bit. After a distraction from Hornswoggle, Finlay nails JBL with a shillelagh. Finlay throws JBL through a table. JBL throws a trash can at Hornswoggle and hits a Clothesline From Hell on Finlay to win the match.

Match Thoughts: Boring hardcore match, and storyline wise, the wrong person won the match.

Backstage, guest hostess Kim Kardashian talks about Wrestlemania and Mr. Kennedy interrupts and says he’s gonna be the first man to win MITB twice in a row.

CM Punk vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. Chris Jericho vs. MVP vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. John Morrison vs. Carlito in a Money In The Bank Ladder match:

Match Analysis: MVP stays in the ring and takes out everybody coming in with a ladder. Morrison hits a moonsault with a ladder on the outside to everybody. Benjamin hits a sunset flip tower of doom on Morrison and Kennedy. Benjamin jumps on a ladder and falls off of it. Punk hits a GTS on Benjamin. Kennedy and Carlito knock Benjamin off a ladder and through a ladder on the outside. Jericho locks on the Walls Of Jericho on Morrison on a ladder. MVP goes for the briefcase, but Matt Hardy interferes and hits a Twist Of Fate on him. Punk and Jericho fight on the ladder, but Punk traps Jericho’s ankle in one of the rungs, and Punk grabs the briefcase to win.

Match Thoughts: One Of the weaker Mania MITB matches. This just seemed to lack a lot of logic and psychology and it seemed like there wasn’t much chemistry with the superstars involved.

We get a recap of the 2008 Hall Of Fame, including Mae Young, Rocky Johnson, High Chief Peter Maivia, The Brisco Brothers, Eddie Graham, Gordon Solie, and Ric Flair.

Backstage, Todd Grisham interviews Snoop Dogg, who says he has much in common with Festus. Santino Marella interrupts and says he’ll be ringside for the Playboy Bunnymania lumberjack match. Snoop rings a ring bell, and Festus chases him off. Grisham asks Snoop where he got a ring bell and he reveals that Mick Foley is responsible, who appears and reveals Mr. Socko to be dressed up as Snoop.

Batista vs. Umaga:

Match Analysis: This match is a mostly back and forth match. Umaga gains control, but Batista hits a spine buster and a Batista Bomb to win the match.

Match Thoughts: This match was okay, but it was a bit of a nothing match. Batista did great and sold for Umaga well, but Umaga seemed lost at times in the match though.

Kane vs. Chavo Guerrero for the ECW Championship:

Match Analysis: Kane chokeslams Chavo for the win.

Match Thoughts: Chavo losing the title quickly was fun, but it’s also something that could have happened on ECW, it didn’t really need to happen at Wrestlemania.

Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels in a Career Threatening match:

Match Analysis: Back and forth match to start, with Flair gaining the advantage and even dives off the top rope successfully. HBK goes for a moonsault on the outside, but misses and breaks a few of his ribs on the Raw announce table. Flair continues to be in control of the match. HBK hits a moonsault to Flair on the outside. HBK gains the advantage and goes to hit Sweet Chin Music But hesitates. Flair locks him in the Figure Four. HBK escapes and Flair locks in the Figure Four again. HBK is able to escape once again and hits Sweet Chin Music for a nearfall. HBK screams at Flair to get up and gets low blowed. HBK hits Sweet Chin Music again but doesn’t pin him. Flair gets up and encourages HBK to come at him. HBK says "I’m sorry. I love you." as he hits Sweet Chin Music On Flair yet again to win the match and retires Ric Flair. Flair gets a standing ovation from everybody and walks up the ramp for the last time.

Match Thoughts: Fantastic match. They told a great story, and both guys looked great in this match.

Ashley and Maria Kanellis vs. Beth Phoenix and Melina in a Playboy Bunnymania lumberjack match:

Match Analysis: Some back and forth action. The lights end up going out midway through the match. Maria almost gets a pin on Beth, but Santino breaks up the pin and Jerry Lawler lays out Santino with a punch. Beth hits a fisherman’s suplex for the win. After the match, Snoop clotheslines Santino and kisses Maria.

Match Thoughts: Terrible match.

John Cena vs. Triple H vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Championship:

Match Analysis: Orton clocks Triple H with the WWE title belt. All three men trade the advantage as all three of them gain control throughout the match. Orton stomps and double DDTs both Triple H and Cena. Triple H hits a Pedigree on Cena but Orton punts Triple H and pins Cena to get the win.

Match Thoughts: Very Boring match, and Orton detaining was the wrong booking decision.

Big Show vs. Floyd "Money" Mayweather in a No Holds Barred match:

Match Analysis: Mayweather uses his speed to get the better of Big Show. Big Show assaults one of Mayweather’s entourage, and Big Show gains the advantage. Mayweather’s entourage attempts to get Mayweather out of the match, but Big Show assaults them on the ramp. Mayweather uses a chair on Big Show and knocks out Big Show with one of his entourage’s brass knuckle necklace to win the match.

Match Thoughts: Surprisingly entertaining match. Mayweather held his own in the match, and Big Show did a great job of putting him over.

Edge vs. The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship:

Match Analysis: Some back and forth action to start things. Edge reverses a Last Ride and hits a big boot on Taker. Edge knocks Taker into the front row. Edge locks in the Edgecator on Taker. Edge hits an Edgecution on Taker for a nearfall. Edge reverses a Tombstone into a Downward Spiral. Edge clocks Taker with a camera. Taker tombstones Edge for a nearfall. Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins come down to the ring and Taker chokeslams Ryder on Hawkins on the outside. Edge spears Taker twice, but Taker locks Edge in the Hell’s Gate for the win.

Match Thoughts: Really Good match.

Final Thoughts: Overall, Wrestlemania XXIV was very disappointing. While there were a few good matches on here, the event as a whole was mediocre.

On to the Nightly.
