Rumor Look Back: Aug. 11 - 17, 2017

Ms. Money in the Bank Carmella

Welcome to the weekly Rumor Look Back, where we look at the rumors from six months ago and see which played out as originally predicted. Let’s get right to it.

August 11, 2017

  • The Observer notes there are absolutely plans for an MMA Horsewomen vs. WWE Horsewomen program as WWE is high on doing it. The Mae Young Classic live final will likely be where the next angle for it is shot.
  • The feud can still happen, but it wasn’t address at all at the MYC classic finals. I’ll grade it in its entirety later on.
  • WWE has no plans to use Dixie Carter as a television character at any point.
  • She was used as part of a WWE Network Kurt Angle piece but never on WWE TV. (1/1)
  • It’s at least possible WWE has pulled the Hardy Men vs. Good Brothers match from SummerSlam, just to conserve time as the show is already filled with matches.
  • The match didn’t happen but the Hardys did find themselves on the earliest parts of the kickoff show. (1/1)
  • According to the Observer, Rey Mysterio never got far in talks with WWE and it’s always been far more likely he’ll end up in GFW.
  • We’ll have to wait and see. He’ll be performing at New Japan this summer.

August 12, 2017

  • Dolph Ziggler may be getting re-packaged soon, according to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live.
  • I wouldn’t say he’s repackaged. A character tweak, yes. But not a full repackage. (0/1)
  • Sheamus is likely going to film a movie soon, so there may be a Raw tag team title change coming soon.
  • They lost it at SummerSlam. (1/1)
  • Scott Dawson is expected to be out until December after getting surgery on his torn biceps.
  • The Revival returned mid December. (1/1)

August 14, 2017

  • John Cena is expected to appear on Monday Night Raw the night after SummerSlam.
  • He teamed with Roman Reigns to defeat Samoa Joe an the Miz. (1/1)
  • It’s looking more likely Carmella will cash in her Money in the Bank contract at SummerSlam than Baron Corbin.
  • She still has it. (0/1)
  • There’s some belief that Asuka may be dealing with some sort of injury but she’s not expected to miss any time.
  • I thought about this one for a bit. She competed at TakeOver, which happened after this rumor. But then there was word of an injured collarbone that may have happened at that match. Given she did miss time between the title relinquish and appearing on Raw though, I opted to grade this as incorrect. (0/1)
  • John Morrison is expected to debut with GFW soon.
  • He did and is in the main event scene there currently. He goes by Johnny Impact. No, seriously. (1/1)

Aug 15, 2017

  • There’s talk of Enzo Amore turning on Big Show and reuniting with Big Cass at SummerSlam.
  • That did not happen. Zo eventually turned heel, but not right away. Six months later, Enzo has been released, Cass is injured, and Show is recovering from surgery. (0/1)
  • Cris Cyborg is unhappy WWE didn’t do anything with the angle she and Becky Lynch were trying to start on Twitter, and is insinuating Ronda Rousey killed it so she wouldn’t wrestle for WWE before Rousey.
  • The drama!

August 16, 2017

  • The speculation now is WWE lost faith in Baron Corbin, maybe due in part to losing so badly in verbal battles with John Cena and social media spats with Mojo Rawley.
  • Maybe. This is around the time he called out team doctors about CTE. Does that mean they lost faith in him?
  • Sportskeeda is saying there are no plans for Naomi to lose the SmackDown women’s title in 2017.
  • Her reign was rather short lived. (0/1)
  • TJP is apparently dealing with an injury
  • That’s the word. (1/1)

August 17, 2017

  • According to PW Insider - Brie Bella will be in New York to film Total Bellas this weekend, and may sit ringside with Nikki for John Cena’s SummerSlam match.
  • I don’t either Bella sitting in for Cena’s match. His match with Corbin was pretty low on the card and didn’t have much fanfare at all. (0/1)
  • Prior to her suspension last Summer, WWE did have plans for Eva Marie to get a SmackDown Women’s title run.
  • This rumor likely broke Geno’s heart.
  • There may be heat on Mike Kanellis because WWE doesn’t like the shape he was in when he reported.
  • This was kind of disputed by Road Dogg on Twitter, but that’s not enough to to grade this as incorrect. His time on TV was short lived.
  • It’s believed the social media postings by Tyrus (the former Brodus Clay) where he says he’s “holding out” and won’t show up for this week’s GFW tapings because he doesn’t like how he’s been booked are a work.
  • Not one they paid off. He actually random returned just last Thursday to team with EC3, but it wasn’t part of any angle with him taking a knee. (0/1)

This week: 7/14 - 50%

Overall: 1,976/3,628 - 54.5%

Have a great week, everyone!
