Welcome to the weekly Rumor Look Back, where we look at the rumors from six months ago and see which played out as originally predicted. Let’s get right to it.
- WWE has yet to sign Daniel Bryan to a new contract, says the Observer. They want to bring him back and it’s expected that he will re-sign.
- He did re-sign. He’s currently the WWE champ... as a heel. Who would have guessed it? (1/1)
- It’s not expected that the cruiserweights will get a match at Money in the Bank.
- This is accurate. They had a little run of time without being on the PPVs, though they’re back on them more. (1/1)
- Chris Brookes turned down a U.K. deal with WWE, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
- He’s not in WWE right now. I don’t know if they offered him one though.
- The word is that Impact vs. Ring of Honor angles will be happening after the Jericho Cruise, and possibly start there.
- They aren’t continuing with the theme post cruise. Looks like it was just to help sell some boat tix. (0/1)
- There’s apparently been some more talk of having Ronda Rousey vs. Nia Jax main event Money in the Bank.
- The main event was the men’s MITB match. But the women’s segment was the hottest angle and it should have closed. (0/1)
- Speaking of Rousey, Ric Flair told Chris Van Vliet in an interview that she only signed a one year deal with WWE because she wants to have kids.
- There were conflicting reports on this, with others saying multiple years.
- Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that Rey Mysterio could be back in WWE by September.
- He returned in October at SmackDown 1000. (0/1)
- That said, he could also be working the New Japan show on July 7 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.
- He was not at that show. (0/1)
- Per the Observer, Will Ospreay is likely going to take some time off to heal up his body.
- I checked with Reverend Claire, the person I ask for most things regarding a rumor like this. She reports that while he worked a lighter schedule in the summer, the only month he didn’t work was just last month. I read “time off” as not working at all. (0/1)
- At this point, it’s considered more likely Undertaker will wrestle at SummerSlam than John Cena.
- Neither did.
- Despite what Ric Flair said over the weekend, sources tell Wrestling Inc Ronda Rousey is signed to a multi-year WWE contract.
- They can’t both be right so I’m gonna drop the ol’ split decision right here. (1/2)
- Speculation from Wrestling Observer Live and elsewhere is that Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks will be the focus of a bidding war between WWE and New Japan when their current contracts expire.
- Now there’s talk about them starting their promotion.
- Nixon Newell, now known as Tegan Nox in NXT, injured her knee over the weekend at Download. Good news is it’s reportedly “minor”.
- Unfortunately, she suffered a rather devastating knee injury later in the Mae Young Classic, and it’ll take at least a young to heal up.
- According to PW Insider, Noam Dar will be at this week’s WWE TV tapings and is expected to return from knee surgery soon. The Observer says he’s been medically cleared.
- Returned June 20th at the UK tournament. (1/1)
- Natalya and The Miz are current favorites to win the Money in the Bank ladder matches.
- It was Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman. (0/2)
- Jason Jordan is expected back on television after Money in the Bank and there’s been talk of a feud with Baron Corbin.
- He’s still trying to work his way back. (0/1)
- There’s also apparently some speculation that Alicia Fox could leave WWE when her deal is up, which may be later this year.
- She’s still with the company so if her contract was up, she’s renewed. (0/1)
- An “industry source“ told Los Angeles Times that UFC 225 did less than 150K buys on PPV, which would pretty much end the last argument for CM Punk in the promotion.
- The allure to see him get his ass kicked a second time wasn’t that strong.
- Part of the reason Sanity and Authors of Pain were called up was to help fill out a Money in the Bank tag team ladder match, says Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live. The decision to scrap that match left the teams in limbo.
- The Authors at least held the tag titles for a little bit, even though it was with their urinary man. SAnitY is barely used at all.
- Bayley is scheduled to work a lengthy program with Riott Squad which will keep her out of the Raw Women’s Title picture and possibly away from Sasha Banks for quite some time.
- I believe this is accurate. Bayley’s crappy booking is hard to keep track of. (1/1)
- Paige also tweeted that she was a victim of theft at Sheraton Memphis while SmackDown was in town there this week. Rusev is pressing charges for the things taken from his and Lana’s room.
- Man, that just sucks.
- WWE is “very upset” about Ring of Honor and AAA possibly holding shows at Madison Square Garden, according to PW Insider.
- AAA never did but ROH and NJPW are running a joint show Mania week. WWE is just going to have to deal with it.
- Per the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there’s apparently been at least some talk of Brock Lesnar showing up at UFC 226 on July 7 and challenging the winner of the Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier fight.
- That’s true. Though the DC fight is still up in the air. (1/1)
- To expand on previous word that WWE is “very upset” about Ring of Honor running Madison Square Garden, the Observer is saying WWE is “doing everything possible to block it.”
- They failed. They rarely run MSG anymore anyway. Maybe a couple of times a year but Barclays is their main stop in NYC.
- Lana mentioned on her Instagram that Brie Bella and Daniel Bryan are helping her prepare for the Money in the Bank ladder match.
- We’ve seen clips on Total Divas where Bryan will help some of the women train. I believe there were specifically clips of them and Lana.
- The Observer notes that WWE will have a new show on FS1 that will be a replacement for UFC Tonight.
- No word on that yet, but there is rumor about NXT possibly doing something on Fox.
- Tokyo Sports says Meiko Satomura will be in this year’s Mae Young Classic.
- She was a standout - probably THE standout - of the tournament. I know she was my favorite. (1/1)
This week: 7/17 - 41%
Overall: 2,505/4,554 - 55.0%
Have a great week, everyone!
