Cageside Community PPV ratings 2017-18: Hall of Shame edition

WWE.com

With Survivor Series this Sunday, we'll enter the third year of rating match for every WWE pay-per-view match. In the run up to Sunday's events, I'll look at who the top performers were over the past twelve months. For this article, we'll look at the wrestler's who've failed to impress, and have finished with the lowest average scores.

=64th -
Luke Harper and Erick Rowan -

Appearances: 6 - Average 2.77 - Harper 2016/17 average - 2.99 - Rowan 2016/17 average - N/A - Meltzer average - 2.25

The former SmackDown Live tag team champions kick off the countdown of the lowest ranked WWE PPV performers of 2017/18. Despite an impressive 5-1 winning record, their matches have not curried favour with the cSs community. Their debut squash match against Breezango led to their lowest score of 2.09. Their three way tag title match at WrestleMania against the New Day and Usos didn't have enough time to impress, and led to a 2.77. Somewhat ironically their highest ranked match was their Summerslam loss to New Day which scored 3.15. This was the only bout which Meltzer rating higher, thus his lower average score.

=66th -
Dash Wilder and Scott Wilder -

Appearances: 4 - Average 2.76 - 2016/17 average - N/A - Meltzer average - 2.19

The Revival are next up. They have had few opportunities to impress like they did on many NXT Takeover's. They've only wrestled in two tag matches, beating the Good Brothers on the Royal Rumble pre-show earning a 2.74 score. Their loss against the Raw tag champs, the B team, at Summerslam was poorly received scoring 2.55. Their highest rated appearance came when they took part in the Greatest Royal Rumble match which scored 3.08

68th -
Shane McMahon -

Appearances: 4 - Average 2.74 - 2016/17 average - 4.18 - Meltzer average - 2.25

Last season's highest rated wrestler had a huge fall from grace over the past twelve months. His World Cup final victory against Dolph Ziggler had the ignominy of scoring 1.60 meaning Shane had made an appearance in 25% of special events, meeting the qualifying threshold for this list. The score was out of kilter with his other matches in 2018, as his tag match with a returning Daniel Bryan against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens earned a respectable 3.61. He also appeared in the Greatest Royal Rumble. His only other appearance came at Survivor Series, where as captain of the men's team he scored 2.88

69th -
Carmella -

Appearances: 9 - Average 2.73 - 2016/17 average - 2.53 - Meltzer average - 2.22

The only member of the women's division to appear on the list is the Princess of Staten Island. She's also made more appearances than anyone else on the list. Prior to Summerslam, she was bottom of the rankings after her reign as SmackDown women's champion failed to impress. Months after their match of the year candidate at WrestleMania, both Charlotte Flair (2.09), and Asuka (1.24 & 2.36) had poor outings against the Dance Break Queen. Her last two appearances at Summerslam and Evolution scored over three to boost her average.

70th -
Bobby Lashley -

Appearances: 6 - Average 2.707 - 2016/17 average - N/A - Meltzer average - 2.21

Lio Rush may think Lashley smells like money, Cagesiders feel his performances smell like something more pungent. The former TNA champion has only had one singles match score higher than three, his Extreme Rules victory over Roman Reigns - 3.36. His low point was his clash with Sami Zayn, which was one of seven matches to score lower than a two.

71st -
Kane -

Appearances: 4 - Average 2.705 - 2016/17 average - 3.27 - Meltzer average - 2.5

Mayor Kane needs to hope his approval ratings in Knox County are stronger than those within the Cageside community otherwise he'll be out a job come next election. His highest rated match came at the Royal Rumble, when his clash for the Universal title against Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman scored 2.95. His appearances in the Andre the Giant Battle Royal (2.68), and at Crown Jewel teaming with the Undertaker to face DX (2.71) did little to excite voters.

=72nd -
Tyler Breeze and Fandango -

Appearances: 5 - Average: 2.694 - 2016/17 average - 2.86 - Meltzer average - 1.85

Breezango are the third and final tag team to make the list. Their two tag team outings failed to impress (2.80 v Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn, 2.09 v Bludgeon Brothers). They did little better when they teamed with Tye Dillinger to face Mojo Rawley, Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin at Fastlane (2.88). Two further appearances in both WrestleMania and Greatest Royal Rumble battle royals sealed their fate.

74th -
Brock Lesnar -

Appearances: 6 - Average: 2.685 - 2016/17 average - 3.45 - Meltzer average - 2.29

The Universal champ is the man propping up this season's ranking. This is an incredible feat when you take into account his match against AJ Styles at last year's Survivor Series is one of the best rated of the campaign (4.46). Since then his matches have continually disappointed. His three match series against Roman Reigns yielded an average of 2.60. The final nail in Lesnar coffin came at Crown Jewel when his turgid bout with Braun Strowman became the first match to be awarded a below one score.

Lowest rated matches of the year.

A lot of the names above feature heavily on the bottom ten ranked matches. Had Enzo Amore remained employed he probably would have made the list. Cagesiders aren't fond of brief matches, as four of these clashes lasted under five minutes.

Matches with lowest vote total

The tag team division is over represented on this table. This may be due to a lot of these matches appearing on the pre-show, and being amongst the last batch of matches to be voted on. That being said, it's a surprise to see an act as popular as New Day appear three times on this list.
