Tonightly, we look at the first Sabbath album not to feature Ozzy on vocals, Heaven and Hell. Whenever a frontman in a band is replaced, it’s always tough. It’s very rare to find a replacement who is either a worthy replacement, or in even rarer cases, better than their predecessor. Sabbath ended up recruiting Ronnie James Dio Of Rainbow for their newest singer. And while it resulted in a different Sabbath, it would end up working so very well. Dio was a much different singer than Ozzy. Dio’s range was more broader and operatic, and lyrically Dio tended to tell stories in his lyrics. Dio and Ozzy also approached their vocal styles differently. Whereas Ozzy would sing along with the guitar riff, Dio would create a completely different vocal medley. As a result, Sabbath’s sound is somewhat different, but still remains true to Sabbath’s roots. The title track is an epic 7 minute song, and the opening track, "Neon Knights" is a great introduction to the band. "Die Young" features a good synth intro, and "Lady Evil" features a great baseline, and "Children Of The Sea" is a fantastic acoustic guitar driven song.

Overall, this is one of Sabbath’s best albums. Highly recommended.

On to the Nightly.
