Rumor Roundup: Special backstage at Royal Rumble edition

There’s a lot of chatter about an eventful night at WWE’s annual Royal Rumble pay-per-view (PPV), much of it focused on the historic, first-ever Women’s Rumble match.

• Nikki Bella eliminating Brie in the women’s Rumble was done as part of a Total Divas angle (Wrestling Observer Radio).
• Dolph Ziggler was pencilled in to respond to Bobby Roode’s U.S. title open challenge on the Kickoff, but the decision was made over the weekend to move him into the men’s Rumble (PWInsider).
• The women were always scheduled to close the show, but the order of the other matches changed frequently throughout the day on Sunday (PWInsider).
• WWE used so many Legends for the women’s Rumble as a way to celebrate their contributions to the current scene, and because so many of them reached out asking to be in the match (PWInsider).
• Kairi Sane replaced the injured Alicia Fox in the women’s match (Wrestling Inc).
