NJPW New Beginning in Sapporo 2018 results for Sunday, January 28: White vs. Omega, RPG3K vs. Young Bucks, and more

NJPW Global on Twitter

With Wrestle Kingdom 12 firmly in our rear view mirror, we’re moving on to New Japan Pro Wrestling’s annual February spectacular... in January? Sure, why not?

This year, New Beginning is split up into three shows, up one from last year’s two. All three shows, naturally, will air live and in full on NJPW World, so why not watch along with the best pro wrestling community on the internet?

Today’s action takes place in Sapporo's Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center, kicking off at an... actually almost-reasonable 1AM Eastern / 10PM Pacific, and is headlined by Kenny Omega defending his IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship against “Switchblade” Jay White and also features a rematch of one of the best undercard matches from Wrestle Kingdom 12, Roppongi 3K vs. the Young Bucks.

The show kicks off with the announcement that Hiroshi Tanahashi is off the show tonight as a result of the beating Minoru Suzuki dished out on him last night.

Juice Robinson over Katsuya Kitamura by pinfall with Pulp Friction. (Kitamura Challenge Series Match 3)

Suzuki-gun (El Desperado, Taichi, TAKA Michinoku, & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) over Jushin Liger, Ryusuke Taguchi, Shota Umino, & Tiger Mask IV by pinfall with a thrust kick from Taichi on Umino.

After the match, Suzuki-gun continue beating down the babyfaces and unmask Tiger Mask, putting his mask on Miho Abe at one point.

Chaos (Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano) over Bullet Club (Hikuleo & Yujiro Takahashi) by pinfall with a folding press and absolutely no shenanigans, honest, certainly not a low blow of any kind, from Yano on Hikuleo.

Bullet Club (Bad Luck Fale, Chase Owens, Tama Tonga, & Tanga Roa) over Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Manabu Nakanishi, Togi Makabe, & Tomoyuki Oka by pinfall with a package piledriver from Owens on Oka.

Suzuki-gun (Minoru Suzuki & Takashi Iizuka) over Michael Elgin & Toa Henare by submission with a kneebar from Suzuki on Henare.

Post-match, with Henare isolated, Suzuki-gun put boots to him but Togi Makabe makes the save!

Bullet Club (Cody Rhodes, Hangman Page, & Marty Scurll) over David Finlay, Kota Ibushi, & KUSHIDA by pinfall with Rite of Passage from Page on KUSHIDA.

Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI, EVIL, Hiromu Takahashi, SANADA, & Tetsuya Naito) over Chaos (Gedo, Hirooki Goto, Kazuchika Okada, Will Ospreay, & YOSHI-HASHI) by submission with Skull End from SANADA on Gedo.

Post-match, young lions and the other Chaos men have to try and hold YOSHI-HASHI from attacking Naito more, but of course the Stardust Genius isn’t bothered by any of it.

Roppongi 3K (SHO & YOH) over Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) (c) by pinfall with a small package from YOH on Matt to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.

”Switchblade” Jay White over Kenny Omega (c) by pinfall with Blade Runner to win the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.

Hangman Page comes down and interrupts White’s celebration to immediately issue a challenge for the United States Championship, but Kenny yanks the belt from him and presents it to White.

Omega and Page get in each other’s faces and Cody comes down to intensify Bullet Club’s squabble as Switchblade gets out of Dodge. Kenny and Cody shove each other again and Omega ends up piefacing Matt Jackson to the mat when he tries to keep the peace.

Kenny makes his apologies but the Bucks leave and Scurll shortly after them, telling Omega and Rhodes to work it out. Kenny slaps hands with Page and has it out with Cody and they settle on a fistbump themselves...

UNTIL CODY HITS CROSS RHODES ON OMEGA AS HE GOES TO LEAVE THE RING! Marty’s right back to try and talk some sense into the grandson of a plumber but he’s lost his mind, ranting and raving, taking Kevin Kelly’s chair from him! Hangman holds Omega in place... KOTA IBUSHI MAKES THE SAVE!

Ibushi extends a hand but Kenny refuses his assistance, using the ropes to stand himself up. Kota takes matters into his own hands and pulls Omega in for a hug! THE GOLDEN LOVERS STAND TOGETHER ONCE AGAIN!

Enjoy the show!
