NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia results - Ember Moon retains the Women’s title at a cost

WWE.com

At NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia tonight (Jan. 27), Ember Moon defended her title against Mae Young Classic runner up Shayna Baszler.

Outside the MYC, Baszler had only been on NXT TV a couple weeks. However, she was wreaking so much havoc choking women out that it caught the eye of Ember Moon. Moon was unimpressed with Shayna’s bullying ways and put up her championship to fight her in Philly. Would it prove a mistake?

Maybe. Ember retained her title, but at a heavy cost.

Ember started the match with fire, trying to make a statement that this was her division. Unfortunately, that was cut off by the vicious Baszler, who started targeting the champ’s left arm.

Moon was out to prove something and she valiantly fought back despite lacking use of one arm. However, when she hit the Eclipse, that did more damage to the injured limb. It was so bad that it brought out the medical staff.

The time Ember spent with the doctors allowed the challenger to recover from the Eclipse. Baszler soon locked in an arm bar and never let go. After writhing in pain for many minutes but refusing to tap, Moon was able to get Shayna in a pinning position and earn the 1-2-3. Despite hurting, she retained the gold.

To add insult to injury, after the match Baszler attacked the champion from behind. This issue between these women aren’t over.

Ember may have retained her title, but she walked out of Philadelphia beaten down with one injured arm.
