The Nightly: January 18th, 2018

Hello Nightly!!!

So I’m starting to get into the Royal Rumble spirit. Ended up watching the 2002 Royal Rumble Match today. And it was actually pretty good for the most part. Better than I thought it would be, really. It was weird to see Perry Saturn in there, as I thought he had left by that point in time. This match had its moments for sure. Undertaker is probably the MVP of this match. He eliminates everybody already in the match when he shows up, fights the Hardy Boyz (who he was feuding with prior to this), and ends up getting eliminated by Maven, which is definitely one of the most shocking moments in Royal Rumble history. But Taker gets his heat back almost immediately, beating Maven to the concessions stand and more or less eliminating him from the match. This match also set a precedent for the Rumble being the land of surprise returns like Mr. Perfect and Goldust, and even some wrestlers returning to previous gimmicks like Godfather and Val Venis. Stone Cold also shined here, eliminating a bunch of people, battling Triple H, and nailing everybody with a steel chair after he gets eliminated. The outcome of this match was never in doubt. As soon as Triple H returned, it was obvious he was winning. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing, as it made sense in the storyline with him returning from a torn quad and all.

Overall, the 2002 Royal Rumble is a pretty good Rumble Match. It’s not a perfect Rumble Match, But it’s entertaining.

On to the Nightly.
