Watch some lucha for free, help kids in Mexico City

The end of Summer has not been kind to a number of places in the Americas, and Mexico in particular has been hit hard during a month of catastrophic events. The 7.1 magnitude earthquake which claimed the lives of at least 155 people and collapsed dozens of buildings in Mexico City on Tuesday, Sept. 19 was the third natural disaster that country has dealt with in the past several weeks.

In an effort to lift spirits and raise money to help children affected by the quake, AAA announced yesterday they’d be putting on a show tonight (Sept. 23) at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya on the Gulf Coast. In addition to proceeds going to Save The Children, the promotion’s also partnered with the streaming site Twitch to provide a free livestream, where they’ll be soliciting donations, as well.

Details are below, and AAA’s Twitch channel is here. On Twitter, Jeremy Borash also announced that he and Vampiro will provide English language commentary on the livestream.

So check out some lucha libre for free, and consider sending some money to help kids in need. You can also donate before the show at this link.

Social video platform Twitch today announced it is partnering with Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, Mexico’s biggest wrestling promotion organization, to promote the livestream of Ring & Rock Stars: Lucha for Mexico. The free-to-watch 2-hour livestream will air exclusively on Twitch to a global audience on September 23 at 6:00 p.m. PT with all of AAA’s proceeds going to Save the Children Mexico. AAA’s proceeds and funds raised using a donation link on their channel page will help provide protection to children and relief for families in the wake of the earthquakes that recently devastated their country.

Ring & Rock Stars: Lucha for Mexico is being held at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya and will feature many of AAA’s top luchadors, including Psycho Clown and Rey Escorpion vs Dr. Wagner Jr. and Pagano, Lady Shani vs La Hiedra, and many more.

“Mexico is a country very dear to us with many Twitch community members, industry partners, and staff based in and around Mexico City,” said Christian Borneman, Director Latin America, Twitch. “Since we were very saddened by the devastation caused by the recent earthquake, we spoke with Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, one of our most important partners in Mexico, to see if we could lend a hand. What we collectively decided was to host the livestream of their highly anticipated Ring & Rock Stars: Lucha for Mexico event on Twitch in order to tap into our global audience. All of the donation proceeds from the airing will then go to Save the Children Mexico, a charity that supports child-focused disaster relief efforts.”

“Mexico has been hit by 3 different natural disasters in the last 4 weeks. AAA has been not only collaborative, but empathic with the victims on each corner of Mexico that has suffered with the hurricane that hit Cabos and the previous earthquake that left Chiapas and Oaxaca states shattered. Sadly for Mexico, the September 19th earthquake brought an even greater misfortune to thousands of victims across our country. Many lives suddenly ended and thousands that could run to a safe place lost their homes and all their belongings. AAA is joining forces with Twitch to livestream this weekend Ring & Rock Stars: Lucha for Mexico event from Riviera Maya and by that, open a window and a way for gamers, Twitch users and lucha enthusiast around the world, to donate to help the victims of this latest earthquake. “AAA and Lucha Libre is a cultural heritage from Mexico to the world, today, Mexico need the help from gamers and Lucha lovers around the world”… said Marisela Peña Herrada, President of AAA Worldwide.
