Anthem Entertainment’s Global Force Wrestling (GFW) continues to make big moves in the wake of their latest batch of bad press. While the projects announced could lead to good outcomes, and definitely aren’t the kinds of things a company on the verge of getting out of the wrestling business would do, they also seem very much like hasty decisions made on the fly.
The latest is the reveal that their Nov. 5 pay-per-view (PPV), Bound for Glory, will not take place in Orlando at their usual “Impact Zone” home at Universal Studios.
That video, with a Union Jack logo and shots of London, created buzz that the show would be headed to the United Kingdom (Wikipedia still lists that as the host city as of this writing). PWInsider shot that down, and the next clip released by Impact Wrestling’s social media team teases a variety of locales in the United States:
The decision to move the event away from Orlando came over the last week, according to Insider. That’s confirmed by the fact on-screen authority figure Jim Cornette announced just seven days ago he was headed to Florida to appear on the show.
GFW does not have episodes of Impact taped past the PPV, and the belief was they’d shoot those on the Universal backlot after Bound for Glory. No shows have been officially announced, however, and taping may now occur wherever they are on Nov. 5.
Or they could hustle back to Orlando and meet up with the travel-shy Cornette. Who knows?
Alberto El Patron will be there, though!
Like the Global Wrestling Network, this could be great. A hot crowd in a bigger venue would make Bound for Glory seem like a major event in a way being in the Impact Zone couldn’t.
Or, they could have trouble filling seats on short notice and trigger a new round of internet jokes, like announcing a streaming service with no details and then accidentally making it live for free did.
At least you can say things are never dull with this company.
UPDATE: PWInsider is now reporting “the belief among many sources” is that Anthem made the call to move the show to their home country of Canada, likely Toronto. While the next TVs would probably be taped wherever BFG happens, they do not hear that GFW plans to move all Impact shows out of Orlando.
