Wrestle Club Redux: Week 9 Lucha the World Over.

Hey all, Don Sal Cusmano here, and for this week of Wrestle Club I went with a theme of Lucha and how 3 different countries handle it by looking at matches from CMLL, Lucha Underground, WCW, and Dragon Gate.

First up is Lucha Underground and the Grave Consequences match between Pentagon Jr. and Vampiro.

Pentagon vs Vampiro

This match was absolutely brutal stuff. However in spite of that it was still a fun watch if a little garbage matchey at times. Vampiro is an absolute madman with some of the stuff he agreed to do.

Second on the list is Lucha Strong Style in Dragon Gate and Monster Express (Akira Tozawa &Shingo Takagi) vs. Millenials (Eita & T-Hawk) Open The Twin Gate Championship.

Open the Twin Gate Match

This match was a lot of fun that blended some hard hitting Japanese strong style with Mexican lucha. It also helps that this match has my favorite cruiserweight Akira Tozawa in it.

Third up we go to CMLL and back about 2 weeks to see Volador Jr. vs Barbaro Cavernario for the NWA World Historic Welterweight Championship.

This was a hoot of a match and so far the best lucha match this year. Contested by two rivals who have such a disdain for each other that it looks like they're betting their hair in September, these two proceeded to have a fun, fast paced match where they proceeded to do crazy things to each other including Barbaro doing a splash on to the concrete outside the ring.

4th up from WCW is Eddie Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio in a Mask vs Title match for the Cruiserweight Championship.

Eddie vs Rey

This match, which included some excellent commentary by Mike Tenay, was an absolute hoot to watch. With 2 of the best wrestlers ever in the ring going all out in a very incredible and high flying lucha match this match is widely considered the best lucha style match to take place in the US, and for good reason.

And last up we go back to CMLL for Atlantis vs Villano III in a Mask vs Mask match.

This match is the best lucha match I've ever seen and featured so much of everything I love about lucha, the crowd, the tradition, the mat work, etc. It was such a good match that it is the only lucha style match to win MOTY from the WON Awards. An absolute must see for any lucha fan.

And that's week 9 of Wrestle Club. Feel free to hit me up in the comments and tell me about my choices. And for those state side, have a happy 4th of July.
