It was a match which raised a lot of eyebrows when the cards for New Japan’s two nights in Long Beach for G1 Special - the first shows the company ever held on U.S. soil... an IWGP Intercontinental title showdown featuring 53 year old former WWE star Billy Gunn challenging NJPW’s long-time ace Hiroshi Tanahashi.
Spoiler alert... even though he’s pretty banged up himself these days, Tana won.
It was never going to be a five star classic, but there was obviously some fun to be had with this pairing. And they went pretty much exactly where you’d expect a Badd Ass Billy Gunn match to go for said fun.
First, the champ grabbed a hold of Gunn’s tights. A wardrobe malfunction ensued, but Billy was doubled up:
