Alberto El Patron ‘under investigation’ for domestic violence incident

Based on receiving a report from a fan that Global Force Wrestling unified champion Alberto El Patron was detained by authorities at Orlando International Airport on Sunday afternoon (July 9), PWInsider contacted the Orlando Police Department.

They received the following statement:

There was an incident at Orlando International Airport at about 3 p.m. Sunday involving Jose Rodriguez (DOB 5/25/1977) The reported incident was a domestic violence battery, and it is still under investigation. No arrests have been made as of this time, but the case remains open. That is all the information we have for release at this time.

TMZ Sports has since followed up on the story, and are reporting witnesses told them El Patron argued with a woman at the terminal. When “things escalated”, the police were called. That site’s police contacts specified that no arrest was made and no charges have been filed, but that investigators are still gathering information about the alleged incident.

There is no official report or confirmation of the identity of the woman involved, although speculation has centered on Alberto’s fiancee, WWE Superstar Paige. She was posting pictures with El Patron and his family over the weekend from Orlando to her social media, which is contributing to speculation about her possible involvement.

More as we have it.

UPDATE: GFW has issued a statement to Pro Wrestling Sheet indicating they will conduct their own investigation into the incident with their champion, in conjunction with the Orlando Police Department:

Global Force Wrestling takes all legal situations very seriously and is looking into this matter. GFW is a privately-held company and will thoroughly investigate this incident and fully cooperate with law enforcement.
