Lucha Underground Mid-Season Three Awards: Best Moment

The return of Lucha Underground's season three is getting closer. Wednesday, May 31 at 8pm ET/PT on El Rey Network to be exact.

If your memory is like mine (a hot air balloon without the hot air), you will need a refresher on all of season three’s joyous moments that occurred in the Temple. What better a way to do that than to hand out mid-season awards. Arriba, arriba, andale!

Today's award will be for the best moment. These are the type of moments that make fans stand up and cheer or buckle over with laughter. The nominees are...

Motorbike built for two

Son of Havoc and Mascarita Sagrada were hatching a plan to get back at Famous B and Dr. Wagner Jr. while dining on Bagel Bites in Havoc's mom's basement. When they finally got the opportunity for a match against their nemeses, Son of Havoc and Mascarita Sagrada entered in style.

And new Lucha Underground champion... Sexy Staaaaarrrrr

All the Lucha Underground marbles were on the line for Aztec Warfare, well at least the most important marble being the Lucha Underground championship. Sexy Star was still standing when it got down to the final two. With the aid of a chair and a table, she outlasted Mil Muertes for the ultimate victory.

It was a fantastic feel-good moment. She fought through abuse before the series, an evil kidnapping during the series, and nefarious chicanery to lose the Gift of the Gods title to Johnny Mundo. Sexy Star's Lucha Underground championship victory was the cumulation of all her blood, sweat, and tears during the journey.

Chavo Classic lying, cheating, and stealing

The decade-plus feud between Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Rey Mysterio reached its conclusion when Rey campaigned for a Loser Leaves Lucha match. With the stakes so high, Chavo Jr.'s father was in attendance.

The match appeared to reach the end when Chavo Jr. was in position to get socked by the 619. Not so fast, my friend. Chavo Classic entered the ring with a steel chair. He acted like he was going to save Chavo Jr. by hitting Rey, however, Chavo Classic turned around and whacked his own son. Chavo Classic loves it when a plan comes together. By whacking Chavo Jr., he intentionally got Rey disqualified.

Unfortunately for the Guerreros, Dario Cueto wasn't on board with those shenanigans. The match was restarted, and we haven't seen either Chavo since.

Broken arms galore for Pentagon DARK

Pentagon DARK had been on a rampant streak of breaking arms. He broke the wrong arm when interfering in Black Lotus' match. Retaliation came in the form of a gauntlet fight against Triad ninjas. Black Lotus snapped Pentagon's arm for supreme revenge. Payback is a... well, you know.

But it wasn't over yet. El Dragon Azteca Jr. hit the ring to break Pentagon's other arm. Vampiro sat smiling at ringside the whole time. It was glorious retribution against the fink known as Pentagon DARK.

The Mack earning a title shot

Dario Cueto decided to hold a Battle of the Bulls tournament to crown the next number one contender. The Mack persevered to win a four-way semifinal and the four-way elimination final.

The Mack put in the work to move up the Temple's ladder, both in status and fan adulation. He was introduced as a sidekick to his cousin, Big Ryck. His character turned out to be a stand-up guy. An entertaining ring style and infectious attitude has made Mack widely cheered. It is a perfect example of fan favorite mid-carder rising to the top for a chance to defeat the butthead bad guy. It might be premature to celebrate Mack earning a title shot. Imagine the celebration if he actually becomes victorious against Johnny Mundo.

One last thing to remember. Always bet on Mack.

Honky Tonk Man cameo

Season three began with Dario Cueto in jail for the murder of Mr. Cisco. Strings were pulled and Cueto was released. Cueto collected his belongings of one money clip, one cell phone, one gold watch, and one giant key. That is when Honky Tonk Man made a random appearance as a prison guard. I'm not even a fan of Honky Tonk Man, but this moment brought a grin to my face.

Killshot stomping Marty Martinez

Killshot battled Marty Martinez in a Weapons of Mass Destruction match to settle a feud from season two. The bad blood was based on Marty feeling like playing with a toy soldier and committing the dastardly act of stealing Killshot's dog tags.

The feud had enough heat behind it to main event an episode. And they delivered the goods in a hard-fought battle all over the Temple. Killshot accomplished retribution with a massive stomp off a ladder through a table. It felt good to see scumbag Moth get squished.

Winner - Chavo Classic lying, cheating, and stealing

In hindsight, Chavo Classic's actions make total sense. In the moment though, Chavo Classic's genius totally caught me by surprise for an extended belly chuckle. Cudos to the two Chavos for going out as only a Guerrero can.

Which moment was the best for you so far in season three? What uplifting action or moments of comeuppance do you hope to see in the second half?

If you missed it, check out the award for Most Outrageous Moment and a breakdown of the mid-season trailer.

Allow me to leave you with a hilarious bonus, since it wasn't technically on the show. Sit back and enjoy Johnny Mundo's music video for the smash hit, "Welcome to Slamtown." Slamtown!
