The return of Lucha Underground's season three is right around the corner. Wednesday, May 31 at 8pm ET/PT on El Rey Network to be exact.
If your memory is like mine (more holes than Swiss cheese), you will need a refresher on all of season three’s wild moments and crazy stories that occurred in the Temple. What better a way to do that than to hand out mid-season awards. Yee-haw!
Today's award will be for the most outrageous moment. These are the type of eye-popping, ridiculously awesome incidents that only make sense in the Lucha Underground universe. The nominees are...
Piedra Immortal
In the same episode where we learned Joey Ryan aligned with Dario Cueto by ratting out undercover cop Cortez Castro for the price of child support payments, we were shown some intriguing scenes regarding an ancient amulet.
A millennia ago, the little girl from Aerostar's time traveling scene in season two was gifted a medallion from her ailing chieftain papá on his deathbed. She must lead the fight against the Gods with the help of the Piedra Immortal. Its power of immortality only works for females.
Fast forward to current time, that sneaky Captain Vasquez is shown pulling out the amulet from her desk drawer. Here's the kicker though. She only possesses half of the amulet. We later learned that Catrina has the other half. Mind blown!

After El Siniestro de la Muerte lost to Prince Puma, Catrina had all she could stands. She couldn't stands no more. What's a girl to do when confronted with repeated failure from her skully minion? Oh, how about breaking his neck, inhaling his soul, and puffing it back out as a power boost for Mil Muertes.
Cage accepting the Lord's gauntlet
Dario Cueto offered one of his patented Unique Opportunities to Cage and Texano as they battled in a best-of-five series. Little did those two beefy men know that it was a ruse to get a host body for the godly powers of Mister Master Lord from the limousine.
Cage was reluctant at first due to his dislike for Renaissance fairs, but he felt the power surge through his veins once he placed his fist into the gauntlet. Only time will tell what becomes of Cage. He has already displayed angry possessiveness. In his first match with the power mitten, Cage almost snapped the referee in two after the ref raised his gloved hand to signify victory.
Lucky for Melissa Santos, she can calm the Machine's circuits. It must have been that time hanging out with Cage and "Johnny Depp".
Prince Puma's resurrection
Vampiro got in Prince Puma's ear offering unsolicited advice. For Puma to become Puma again, Vampiro urged that Puma conquer Mil Muertes. Puma went full steam ahead with sneak attacks eventually resulting in a Grave Consequences challenge to avenge his mentor Konnan. Puma did not succeed. For those unfamiliar with Grave Consequences in Lucha Underground, it is a casket match resulting in literal death for the loser.
"Come with me," was the line stated by Vampiro the next time we saw Prince Puma as he arose from his casket. Later on, Puma pledged his allegiance to a visually necrotic Vampiro for a journey into darkness.

Kobra Moon had been making threats to Drago during their bathroom rendezvous. Drago seemed a bit perturbed when Kobra Moon brought up General Pindar's name. Not to mention the allegedly seven-foot Vibora.
Once we finally got eyes on the duo, it was every but as ludicrous as one would imagine. I say that in a good way. Pindar and Vibora have only had one match and a couple of beatdown sessions, but those two fighting snakes have looked entertaining enough.
Sibling kidnapping
After Mariposa lost to Sexy Star yet again, Marty chokeslammed Mariposa. A few weeks later, Marty was kidnapped while he was lusting for Melissa Santos from afar.
It turned out that the mystery kidnapper was none other than Marty's sister, Mariposa. She had him cocooned in rope. Marty seemed pleased by these events as he manically muttered, "I did good." It seems like Marty will be leveling up in power when he returns to action.

Absolutely brutal. Bru-tal, bru-tal, bru-tal!
Being the young punk full of bravado that he is, El Dragon Azteca Jr. set out to build his own legacy by ending Matanza's life. That led to a Death Match, per Azteca's request. Azteca and Matanza battled in the higher levels of the Temple. Eventually, Matanza got the upper hand and used said hand to chokeslam Azteca through the top of the bleachers. Upon season three's return, we should learn just how much damage was inflicted upon Azteca's body.
Winner - Piedra Immortal
I love Lucha Underground's epic backstory of an upcoming war with the Gods. The Piedra Immortal is the kind of detail that drives me into the depths of creative contemplation while daydreaming. The reveal of Catrina with the other half is what really elevated this moment on my excitement scale. It is a shame that the story has yet to continue, so hopefully we get some progress on the amulet during the second half of season three.
Which moment was the most outrageous for you so far in season three? What wild, wacky stuff do you hope to see in the second half?
