NXT TakeOver emanated from the Allstate Area in Chicago tonight (May 20) and asides from telling their own stories, they served as a showcase for the United Kingdom division and its title.
Tonight, Tyler Bate defended his title against Pete Dunne in a rematch of the finals of the UK tournament that crowned Bate the initial champion. Since he won the title, he’s defended it against the likes of Trent Seven, Mark Andrews, and Jack Gallagher. But once again, he’d have to face ruthless Dunne, who earned his opportunity in Norwich last month. Would the Bruiserweight Pete Dunne allow the young Bate to beat him for the title twice?
Absolutely not.
The match was grappling early, with both men keeping even. But when the villain nailed the champion with a forearm and followed up by tossing him onto the ring apron, the match became Dunne’s to control.

The Bruiserweight didn’t get work over Bate as long like he normally would. Tyler fired back, having an answer to everything Dunne threw at him. In fact, Dunne found himself him on the defensive more than he’s likely used to.
The final portion of the bout was a full fever pitch, with both men going back and forth, giving it their all and the crowd eating it up down to the last crumb. There was a sequence where Bate went for the Tyler Driver, which Dunne reversed into the Bitter End, which Bate reversed into a DDT that was just wild.

In the end, it wasn’t the move that hit but the move that missed that made the difference. The champion missed a top rope dive falling hard on the floor. The challenger was able to slide the champ into the ring and hit the Bitter End for the 1-2-3.
After an extremely fun match, the Bruiserweight is your new United Kingdom champion.
