We’ve known it was on the way for a while and that the cast looked amazing. We just got the first batch of promotional posters and a teaser a few weeks back.
None of that prepared me for our first full look at Netflix’s GLOW.
As you can see in the trailer above, the streaming service’s new dramedy focuses on the 1980s wrestling promotion/television show “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling”. As you’d expect from a 21st century look back at that decade from the creative team behind shows like Orange is the New Black, Nurse Jackie and Weeds, it comes from a female - and feminist - perspective. Which is awesome.
And, hey... even if that’s not your thing - Alison Brie!
In addition to revealing it’ll be exploring issues related to what it’s like to be a woman in the entertainment business, the trailer also gives us a look at the show’s sense of humor. And the surprisingly (at least to me) large role Kia Stevens (aka Awesome Kong, aka Kharma) has landed for herself.
Check it out and let us know what you think.
All ten episodes of blood, t*ts and storytelling are coming your way on June 23.
