DJ Z describes the ‘fractured colon’ he suffered during a match in Mexico and the life-saving surgery he underwent as a result

On Wednesday night, April 5, at a Mexico City show put on by Konnan’s The Crash promotion, TNA star DJ Z (aka Zema Ion, real name Michael Paris) was seriously injured during his match with Rey Horus, Laredo Kid, Mr. 450, Septimo Dragon and Ultimo Ninja. He finished the match despite having what he thought at the time was just the wind knocked out of him while taking a 450 splash.

When he was nauseous and in pain afterwards, the paramedics treated him and took him via ambulance to the hospital:

He was treated for those symptoms and released, but didn’t even make it to his room before again getting sick. He was also feverish and had trouble remaining consiousness, so staff at the hotel called for another ambulance. Back at the hospital, he was diagnosed with a “fractured colon”. Surgery was thankfully a success and it appears Z has avoided needing to wear a colostomy bag for the rest of his life - or losing his life - as a result of the injury. He tells the story here:

While it looks like he’s just starting a long recovery process, he is already able to walk, just 24 hours after surgery:

This is the second major colon-related health scare of DJ Z’s career. In 2013, an emergency appendectomy discovered a benign tumor in his colon which required additional surgery to remove.

Please join us in sending our thoughts and prayers to Paris for a complete recovery.
