Tier 1 Wrestling

Welcome back to the Sermon on the Mat, your weekly one-stop shop for news from the wider world of wrestling beyond the big cable TV monoliths that get all the coverage.

Coming soon...

AIW The Next Episode (April 21, 7:30PM Eastern)

  1. PB Smooth vs. T-Money
  2. Matthew Justice vs. Mike Tolar
  3. Hornswoggle vs. Space Monkey
  4. Carnies (Kerry Awful & Nick Iggy) vs. Young Studs (Bobby Beverly & Eric Ryan)
  5. "All Ego" Ethan Page vs. Shawn Shultz
  6. Dominic Garrini vs. Flip Kendrick vs. Josh Prohibition vs. "Nasty" Russ Myers
  7. Alex Daniels, Tim Donst, & To Infinity and Beyond (Cheech & Colin Delaney) vs. Crazy Pain (Gringo Loco & Steve Pain), Joey Janela, & Louis Lyndon
  8. Jimmy Rave vs. "Hot Sauce" Tracy Williams
  9. LuFisto vs. Shayna Baszler (c) (AIW Women's Championship)

The show must ever go on and AIW are back in Cleveland for, well, the next episode. With a one-two double headliner like Rave/Williams and LuFisto/Baszler, it's gonna be a can't miss show before you even get to stuff like that jam-packed eight-man, the four-way, or, yes, Hornswoggle wrestling a monkey that is from space.

Get your tickets here or wait for it to go up on Smart Mark Video, but as I mentioned last week, regardless of how you choose to do it, now is the time to support AIW if you have any inclination to do so at all.

CMLL Super Viernes (April 21, 9:30PM Eastern)

  1. Canelo Casas & Espanto, Jr. vs. Flyer & Robin
  2. Drone, Fuego, & Rey Cometa vs. Nitro, Raziel, & Virus
  3. Guerrero Maya, Jr. vs. Luciferno (Lightning Match)
  4. Artillero vs. Blue Panther, Jr. vs. Esfinge vs. Forastero vs. Magnus vs. Sanson vs. Star, Jr. vs. Stigma (Copa Jr. Nuevos Valores Semifinal Elimination Match)
  5. Diamante Azul, El Valiente, & Stuka, Jr. vs. Los Guerreros Laguneros (Euforia & Gran Guerrero) & Mr. Niebla
  6. Carístico, Dragon Lee, & Volador, Jr. vs. La Máscara & La Peste Negra (Bárbaro Cavernario & Negro Casas)

Okay, so this week's Super Viernes isn't as stacked as last week's was, but we still have what should be a dynamite main event and another round of the over-achieving Copa Jr. Nuevos Valores, which really hit the spot last week.

Check it out, hopefully, free for nothin' on ClaroSports if they remember to take the region lock off this week.

PWG Game Over, Man (April 21, 8PM Pacific)

  1. Jeff Cobb vs. Keith Lee
  2. Lio Rush vs. Rey Fenix
  3. Kyle O’Reilly vs. Michael Elgin
  4. Adam Cole vs. Matt Riddle
  5. War Machine (Hanson & Ray Rowe) vs. Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)
  6. Dick Togo vs. Zack Sabre, Jr.
  7. Chuck Taylor vs. Marty Scurll (Reseda Street Fight)

Dick Togo is wrestling Zack Sabre, Jr. in a non-title match. 'Nuff said!

Tickets, as always with PWG, were sold out almost immediately after they were put on sale, but DVD will come in due time.

House of Hardcore 24 / 25 (April 21-22)

—House of Hardcore 24 (April 21, 8PM Eastern)—

  1. Brian Cage vs. MVP
  2. Bully Ray vs. Sami Callihan
  3. Broken Matt Hardy vs. Tommy Dreamer (NJ Delete Street Fight)

—House of Hardcore 25 (April 22, 8PM Eastern)—

  1. Pentagon el Zero M vs. Sami Callihan
  2. Broken Hardyz (Broken Matt & Brother Nero) vs. Bully Ray & Tommy Dreamer

House of Hardcore is back on FloSlam for an east coast double shot and while, as always, they're holding the complete cards close to their vest, what they've announced is surely worth being excited for. Now more than ever, as this could be your last chance to see the Hardyz in their full broken brilliance for some time, depending on how WWE creative shakes out!

Get your tickets here or check it out live or VOD on FloSlam.

AAW Path of Redemption (April 22, 7PM Central)

  1. Ace Perry & Paco vs. Bucky Collins & Connor Braxton
  2. Brubaker & CJ Esparza vs. Stephen Wolf & Trey Miguel
  3. Mat Fitchett vs. Zachary Wentz
  4. Samantha Heights vs. Veda Scott
  5. Alex Daniels vs. Chuck Taylor
  6. Daga vs. Michael Elgin
  7. Bob Holly vs. Mil Muertes
  8. AR Fox & Rey Fenix vs. OI4K (Dave & Jake Crist) (c) (AAW Tag Team Championship)

Yes, Hardcore Holly is wrestling Mil Muertes this weekend. It is happening. Do not adjust your sets, folks. AAW are back in LaSalle, Illinois and, I mean, what can I add to that? Oh, is that Daga making his debut opposite BIG MIKE? Yep! Crazy Fox/Fenix superteam challenging for the titles? Yep!

Get your tickets here or check it out when it goes up on Smart Mark Video and Highspots.

Bullet Proof Wrestling (April 22, 7:30PM Eastern)

  1. Bobby Fish vs. JT Dunn
  2. Beautiful Bald Besties (Michael Stevens & Zac Edwards) vs. Washington Bullets (Jon & Trey Williams)
  3. Odinson vs Ryan Oshun
  4. Aria Blake vs. Kiera Hogan
  5. Donovan Dijak vs. Drew Adler (c) (WrestleMerica Championship)
  6. Jax Dane & Tyson Dean vs. Tempura Boyz (Sho Tanaka & Yohei Komatsu)
  7. Cody Rhodes vs. Jimmy Havoc (BPW Championship)

Bullet Proof Wrestling are making their debut this weekend in Barnesville, Georgia. A passion project from WWE's Joey Mercury and Luke Gallows, the legacy of the Straight Edge Society rolls on in indie form as an extension of their Bullet Proof Dojo wrestling academy.

And as you can see, they're bringing the goods, with a pair of can't-see-it-anywhere-else matchups in Rhodes/Havoc and that NJPW vs. NWA tag, plus less unique but still awesome matchups, the likes of Fish/Dunn and Blake/Hogan.

Get your tickets here. I'm admittedly not sure what their distribution is going to look like, but it's such a unique show that I had to bring it in here for Sermon.

Tier 1 The One Who Knocks / True Will (April 22-23)

—The One Who Knocks (April 22, 2PM Eastern)—

  1. Cutthroat Kings (Connor Claxton & Logan Black) (c) vs. Fella Twins (Eddy McQueen & Rick Cataldo) (Tier 1 Tag Team Championship)
  2. Archadia vs. Myron Reed
  3. Anthony Bowens vs. Fred Yehi
  4. Matt Riddle (c) vs. Mike Verna (Progress Atlas Division Championship)
  5. Team Battle Club (Brute VanSlyke, Craven Varro, Jordynne Grace, & Sean Carr) vs. Team Tier 1 (Curt Stallion, Joey Janela, Mike Orlando, & Nikki Addams)
  6. Carnies (Kerry Awful & Nick Iggy) vs. Gatekeepers (Blaster & Flex)
  7. "All Ego" Ethan Page vs. Matt Macintosh
  8. Chris Dickinson vs. Keith Lee (Tier 1 Championship #1 Contender's Match)
  9. Darby Allin vs. Darius Carter (c) (Tier 1 Championship)

—True Will (April 23, 3PM Eastern)—

  1. Isaiah Wolf & TK Luther V vs. Mike Orlando (Handicap Match)
  2. Anthony Greene vs. Maxwell Jacob Feinstein vs. "Colossal" Mike Law vs. Tony Deppen (Elimination Match)
  3. John Silver vs. Stockade
  4. David Starr vs. Mike Verna
  5. Matt Riddle (c) vs. Penta el Zero M (Progress Atlas Division Championship)
  6. Breakfast Club (CPA & Francis Kipland Stevens) vs. Cutthroat Kings (Connor Claxton & Logan Black) (c) (Tier 1 Tag Team Championship)
  7. Sonny Kiss vs. Winner of Allin/Carter (c) vs. Winner of Dickinson/Lee (Tier 1 Championship)

Tier 1 have two, count 'em two big shows coming up opening for Evolve in New York this weekend. On Saturday they'll team up with Battle Club Pro before heading to FloSlam on Sunday, and they've stacked both cards deep. I mean, obviously, Matt Riddle vs. CM Penta is the money match here, but Dickinson/Lee, Allin/Carter, Carnies/Gatekeepers, the three-way title match, all could be the greatest of hoots.

Plus, take a minute to watch the build for Page/Macintosh. It's three promo videos (Matt's first, Ethan's reply, and then Matt's reply) and it is excellent. Check it out!

Get your tickets here for The One Who Knocks, here for True Will, or hit the iPPV page for The One Who Knocks and log into your FloSlam account for True Will, folks.

Lucha Forever Lucha Live #ONE (April 23, 6PM GMT)

  1. Damian Dunne vs. Ryan Smile
  2. Josh Bodom vs. Kip Sabian
  3. Bubblegum vs. Chris Ridgeway
  4. Bea Priestley vs. Lana Austin
  5. #CCK (Chris Brookes & Mondai Lykos) vs. Los Gueros del Cielo (Angelico & Jack Evans)

Hot off the heels of their debut, it's already on to show number two for Lucha Forever, this time in Manchester. This is the first of a sort of secondary series of shorter shows with less international talent under the Lucha Live banner, and it's a solid card highlighted by a real cracking dream tag team main event.

Tickets are sold out, but these Lucha Live shows will be making their way to LF’s YouTube channel for your viewing enjoyment at some point.

Progress Chapter 47: Complicated Simplicity (April 23, 2PM GMT)

  1. Mike Bird vs. "Flash" Morgan Webster
  2. Eddie Dennis vs. James Drake
  3. London Riots (James Davis & Rob Lynch) vs. South Pacific Power Trip (TK Cooper & Travis Banks)
  4. Jack Sexsmith vs. Paul Robinson (Super Strong Style 16 Qualifying Match)
  5. Alex Windsor vs. Laura DiMatteo (Natural Progression Series IV Semifinal Match)
  6. Mark Andrews vs. Mark Haskins (Progress Championship #1 Contender's Match)
  7. British Strong Style (Pete Dunne, Trent Seven, & Tyler Bate) (c) vs. Ringkamp (Axel Dieter, Jr., Timothy Thatcher, & WALTER) (Progress Championship / Progress Tag Team Championship Trios Match)

Progress are back in London for their first show since WrestleMania weekend and boy it might be the best-looking card in Progress history! Eddie Dennis returns to try and end James Drake's undefeated streak, two of Progress' all-time great tag teams clash for the first time, Jack Sexsmith gets one last chance at being a real boy ahead of SSS16, and we set our final finalist for the Progress Women's Championship.

Plus, Haskins and Andrews battling for the contendership (reports that the loser will be forced to change his first name are unconfirmed at this time), and, I mean, just look at that main event. The full might of Ringkampf assembled in a Progress ring, for the first and possibly last time, and British Strong Style's titles are on the line. If one of the WWE UK lads takes the fall, his title goes to the man that pinned or submitted him. Timothy Thatcher, Progress Champion? It could happen!

Tickets, as always with Progress, are long sold out, but you can have a crack at the official resale site or just wait for the show to go up on Demand Progress with the rest of us.

SUP Battle For Bonestorm (April 23, 8PM Central)

  1. Brett Ison vs. Frankie Flynn (Battle for Bonestorm First Round Match)
  2. Caleb Courageous vs. Chris Crunk (Battle for Bonestorm First Round Match)
  3. Dr. Daniel C. Rockingham vs. Dominic Garrini (Battle for Bonestorm First Round Match)
  4. AJ Gray vs. Kerry Awful (Battle for Bonestorm First Round Match)
  5. Alex Daniels vs. Nick Iggy (Battle for Bonestorm First Round Match)
  6. Curt Stallion vs. Kevin Ku (Battle for Bonestorm First Round Match)

It's a week of debuts here, because Southern Underground Pro are holding their first show in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday. They've got a tournament stacked with some of the bet up-and-comers on the indies today, so if you want to keep your finger on the pulse, boy howdy, this is the show for you!

Tickets are sold out online but there's still the possibility of buying one at the door, and if you can't, the show will be released online for free at some point!

Free matches here!

Matt Riddle vs. Timothy Thatcher

Ahead of their fourth clash at Evolve 82 this weekend, the fine folks at WWNLive have uploaded their most recent match against each other. My match of the year 2016, it's a No Holds Barred display of intense technical wrestling at its finest from two of the very best in the world. Don't miss it!

Craig Mitchell vs. GPA vs. Matt Knicks vs. Rob Matter vs. Storm Grayson

It's a Freelance specialty by way of the good folks over at Beyond Wrestling. GPA defends his Freelance Championship in trademark scramble action, and you're not gonna want to miss a second of it. Check it out!

ACH vs. Mustafa Ali

From AAW's master archive, it's the cream of the high-flying crop as ACH takes on Mustafa Ali in a match that could have been ROH vs. Freelance a year ago but would be Evolve vs. WWE today. Enjoy!

B-Boy & Lil' Cholo vs. PPRay ("Pretty" Peter Avalon & Ray Rosas) vs. Reno Scum (Adam Thornstowe & Luster the Legend)

Three-way tag team action from AWS, and this one's special because our very own California correspondent rancho king was in attendance. And hell, B-Boy even stole his chair from him at one point! Give it a shot!

Results

RPW Epic Encounter (April 13)

  1. #CCK (Chris Brookes & Travis Banks) (c) over Martin Stone & Sami Callihan to retain the RPW British Tag Team Championship
  2. Jay White over Angelico
  3. Hirooki Goto over Zack Gibson
  4. Hiromu Takahashi over Marty Scurll
  5. Josh Bodom (i) over Will Ospreay (c), unifying the RPW British Cruiserweight Championship

  7. Zack Sabre, Jr. (c) over KUSHIDA to retain the RPW British Heavyweight Championship
  8. Bullet Club (Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson, & Nick Jackson) over Lio Rush, Ryan Smile, & Shane Strickland

RevPro's encounter was indeed epic, with Sami Callihan turning on Stone after they failed to capture the tag titles, Gibson and Ospreay getting into each other's business and costing them their matches, Samuels cutting Castle's mohawk off after their match, and, of course, Sabre/KUSHIDA and the main event trios matches being EXACTLY what you knew they'd be.

Check it out on RPW On Demand.

NOVA Pro Commonwealth Cup (April 14)

  1. Logan Easton LaRoux over David Starr (Commonwealth Cup First Round Match)

  11. Logan Easton LaRoux over Arik Royal (Commonwealth Cup Finals)

NOVA Pro earns a spot in our results listings this week thanks to the excellent efforts of my man Duke, who was so kind as to write up a recap in the FanPosts. And it was a monumental one, with Arik Royal's undefeated streak finally coming to an end in the finals.

Check it out when it goes live on Smart Mark Video, folks.

OTT ScrapperMania III (April 15)

  1. Grado over Charlie Sterling
  2. Jigsaw over Scotty Davis
  3. Jurn Simmons over Paul Tracey
  4. Justin Shape & Logan Bryce over Gymnasties (B. Cool & Sammy D)
  5. Team Martina (Alex Windsor, Nixon Newell, & Session Moth Martina) over Team Katey (Bea Priestley, Jinny, & Katey Harvey)
  6. Kings of the North (Bonesaw, Damien Corvin, & Dunkan Disorderly) (c) over Lads From the Flats (Martin, Paddy M, & Workie)
  7. Marty Scurll over Jay White
  8. Zack Gibson over Angel Cruz
  9. The Elite (Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson, & Nick Jackson) over Uptown Funkers (Lio Rush, Ryan Smile, & Will Ospreay)

OTT's entry into the live streaming arena didn't quite go off as planned, with a significant chunk of the early show ending up as dead air on FloSlam, but once it came live, we got a pretty solid show out of it. The main highlights would be the two trios matches, the women's is a tour de force of some of the best the UK has to offer, and the main event is half schtick (with, at one point, Omega and the Bucks narrating their own action), half awesome wrestling.

And hey, like I always say, never look a gift Zack Gibson appearance in the mouth!

Check it out in the archive over at FloSlam.

Lucha Forever: The Dawn of Forever (April 17)

  1. Kip Sabian (c) over Ashley Dunn, Connor Mills, and Kelly Sixx to retain the HOPE Kings of Flight Championship
  2. Alex Windsor over Toni Storm by count-out
  3. Alex Windsor over Nixon Newell
  4. Omari over Jigsaw
  5. Will Ospreay Referee Shay Purser over Sami Callihan
  6. #CCK (Chris Brookes & Mondai Lykos) & Damian Dunne over Bea Priestley, Drew Parker, & El Ligero, securing a spot to contend for the Lucha Forever Trios Championship
  7. Toni Storm over TK Cooper
  8. Travis Banks over Shane Strickland to win the Lucha Forever Championship

A momentous debut for Lucha Forever, I couldn't catch the whole thing but the main event is a barrel of indie fun. And hey, who wants to miss Nixon Newell's last indie match before she goes off to be the next big thing in one of WWE's women's divisions, right?

Check out the replay on FloSlam.
