Welcome to the weekly Rumor Look Back, where we look at the rumors from six months ago and see which played out as originally predicted. Let’s get right to it.
- As far as the Eva Marie suspension, Justin LaBar is saying she did nothing wrong and "made clear she never wanted to be in violation and made the effort not to be." A statement from the Eva camp is expected soon.
- Eva Marie did make a statement. It was tame compared to the angrier statement her husband released the day prior. (1/1)
- WWE apparently wasn't happy with Dean Ambrose after his interview with Steve Austin because he was making negative comments about creative decisions and they didn't like his saying Brock Lesnar didn't want to do anything in their match at WrestleMania.
- If this is the case, he surely didn’t pay for it. He’s been a featured player on SmackDown the entire time.
- It's now expected that Alberto Del Rio will leave WWE just as soon as he's legally able to do so. Paige is not expected to do the same.
- I would say both are the same, but I still wouldn’t be surprised if Paige is gone by the time I’m doing the Look Back for today’s date six months from now. (2/2)
- John Cena is expected to be going on another hiatus soon, which could mean AJ Styles will be winning their match at SummerSlam. The New Day are also expected to drop the tag team titles to Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows.
- Cena did go on hiatus and AJ did win. New Day didn’t drop the titles until they broke Demolition’s record. (2/3)
- Apparently some of Will Ospreay's "pipe bomb" promo on Vader not wanting to lose to him was a shoot in the sense that once the match was agreed on, that's what happened. There is almost certainly going to be a rematch.
- There wasn’t a rematch. (0/1)
- There has been speculation making the rounds that there could be additional WWE suspensions coming soon.
- There haven’t been (outside the second Paige one but she was still serving the first suspension at the time of this rumor). (0/1)
- Bill Goldberg and WWE could be working together on an in-ring return sooner than you think, and a SummerSlam appearance is a possibility.
- He’s back, but the return was prior to Survivor Series. (1/2)
- Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton is currently set to go on last at SummerSlam.
- It did. It had a different feel with the referee stoppage after Lesnar pummeled Randy. (1/1)
- Australia could be getting an NXT Takeover special when WWE tours there next year.
- There was no TakeOver special during the tour down under. (0/1)
- The Observer is now outright reporting that "it absolutely was his interview" that got Joey Styles fired. Apparently it was at least partially to send a message to everyone who does interviews about what they can and can't say.
- Or it could just be Joey, who was fired someplace else within six months.
- Sasha Banks losing the Women’s title just weeks after she won it on Raw and WrestlingInc reporting she’d been removed from house shows for the next 33 days prompted a lot of chatter during SummerSlam. PWInsider says the decision to drop the belt was made last week, as she needs time off to deal with nagging injuries.
- This was likely because of the earlier rumor about more suspensions coming. She was back and ready to go within weeks.
- Other sources say Joe and Bayley have remained in Brooklyn after TakeOver, and may debut on the main roster during tonight’s episode of Raw.
- Joe didn’t debut until just weeks ago. Bayley did debut on this episode. (1/2)
- Eric Young’s WWE contract is said to be done, and he should be debuting at the next Full Sail taping.
- Yes, he returned to NXT TV in September, which was filmed during the post TakeOver set of tapings. (1/1)
- WWE is working toward a Shane McMahon vs. Brock Lesnar match, probably for next year’s Royal Rumble.
- It didn’t happen at the Rumble. And it’s not going to happen at WrestleMania. I’m going to go ahead and mark this as incorrect. If for some reason it happens SummerSlam next year, I’ll correct it. (0/1)
- Roman Reigns is the early frontrunner to win next week’s Fatal 4Way and become the second Universal champion.
- It was Kevin Owens. And he’s still champion, though his time is likely running out (0/1)
- There were discussions about turning Bubba Ray heel for a "Bully Ray" run, but it was decided too much time had passed to really capitalize on the work he’d done with it in TNA
- I would have loved that. Bully Ray was a great character.
- Tommy End and Crazy Mary Dobson are expected to report to the Performance Center in Sept. There’s multiple reports the "Sanity" teaser which aired during TakeOver: Brooklyn II is for Dobson, who would be relaunched from her previous appearances as enhancement talent.
- Dobson isn’t in Sanity. Both of them are announced NXT signings. (1/2)
- There is apparently no heat on either Chris Jericho or Brock Lesnar for the backstage scuffle they got into at SummerSlam over the finish of the Lesnar vs. Randy Orton main event.
- Hit me or kiss me, bitch.
- Speaking of that match, PW Insider is reporting the blood wasn't planned as part of the finish. It was supposed to be a TKO like they played it but without the blood.
- This contradicts later rumors that the blood was planned.
- Nikki Bella is expected to win the SmackDown Live women's championship to help establish the title but she isn't expected to have a long run with it.
- She hasn’t won the title yet. It may happen at one point, but this rumor is implying an early run. (0/1)
- Sami Zayn's ankle injury in his match with Seth Rollins on Raw this week was storyline and he's fine.
- This is true. This was part of the brief “Seth Rollins injures your heroes” story. (1/1)
- Multiple sites are saying the Miz/Daniel Bryan segment from Talking Smack which has everyone talking was "part shoot". Wrestling Observer says both guys knew where they were going with their promos, but let reality slip in a bit.
- I am curious the relationship between both men. While both are on Total Divas, they’ve never really interacting to give us a hint.
- A gossip magazine is reporting that the Vin Diesel/Dwayne Johnson beef from the set of Fast 8 was played up as a publicity stunt and could end in a match or angle for The Rock at WrestleMania 33 - which happens right before the movie comes out.
- Since this hasn’t been mentioned in awhile, I doubt it. However I will put it on outstanding and mark it as incorrect when Mania is over.
- Vince was said to be very excited by the reaction Bayley got, and has been comparing her to AJ Lee.
- She’s already champion, though the booking around it is questionable.
- Big Cass is also getting high marks backstage.
- He and Enzo are finally getting a tag shot at Fastlane.
This week: 11/21 - 52%
Overall: 1,372/2,522 - 54.4%
Have a great week, everyone!
