News broke earlier today that Dave Bautista’s Kickboxer: Vengeance co-star, Georges St. Pierre, has supposedly agreed to return to UFC. The former Welterweight champion has been away from the company since vacating the title and announcing he needed time away from mixed martial arts back in December of 2013.
St. Pierre is one of the biggest names in the history of the sport, so I could try to spin this into something like... his coming back means it’s more likely Conor McGregor is definitely leaving UFC for a while, therefore making a WWE appearance more likely.
But really, what inspired this post are the odds released from online casino Bovada about his next opponent.
Names you expect top their list. Guys like current titleholders Michael Bisping and Tyron Woodley, or another all-time great in Anderson Silva.
Way down at the bottom is a name familiar to all of us in the scripted exhibition wing of the combat sports mansion: CM Punk is a 150/1 shot to be GSP’s next fight.
Not that it would be much of a fight. Even with three-plus years of ring rust, I wouldn’t give Punk even the 2:14 he lasted against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in that showdown of 170 pounders.
So while I doubt this fight is happening, even if Punk convinces Dana White to let him fight in the Octagon again, if you think there’s a chance, put your money where your mouth is.
You could get rich.
