Impact Wrestling preview (Dec. 14, 2017): A New Knockouts Champion is Crowned

Impact Wrestling Instagram

Impact Wrestling returns tonight (Dec. 14) with their sixth episode from the most recent set of tapings.

Here’s what’s advertised for tonight:

  • Rosemary vs. Laurel Van Ness for the vacant Knockouts title
  • Sienna vs. Allie vs. Madison Rayne vs. KC Spinelli in a #1 contenders match
  • Alberto El Patron, Petey Williams, & Johnny Impact vs. Eli Drake, Chris Adonis, & a mystery partner
  • Trevor Lee & Caleb Konley vs. Ishimori and Dezmond Xavier
  • Moose and James Storm calls out American Top Team
  • Konnan and Sami Callihan will have a summit

As per usual, here are our five questions about Impact tonight:

1) Is this Laurel’s night?

The KOs championship match between Laurel Van Ness and Rosemary felt like a gimme early on. Rosemary is a huge hit and an obvious choice to crown champion.

But the more I think about it, this would be a good spot for Laurel to win it. She’s done great work in Impact in her time there. Most of that work was as a character and less as a wrestler, but she’s been fantastic as the bratty rich girl turned unhinged woman who snapped after being left at the alter.

While the likes of Rosemary and Sienna were on top of the division as champion, Laurel was consistently entertaining in smaller roles. Does that get rewarded with gold tonight?

I’d be happy either way, to be honest. There’s a ton of outrageous personality in this match and it could be really fun.

2) Why would Johnny Impact ever team with Alberto El Patron?

This 6 man tag match tonight is a weird one. And one of the weirdest things about it is that Alberto El Patron and Johnny Impact are on the same side. Because these two hate each other.

Just because both of them have issues with Eli Drake doesn’t mean there’s any love there. This is absolutely not ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” So why would they ever agree to team with each other?

This is actually a spot where an authority figure who makes matches would work. They would make the match and then Johnny and Alberto would have to reluctantly team together. Perhaps they’ll allude to mysterious management to explain it.

And that’s not the only question surrounding this match:

3) Who will team with Eli Drake and Chris Adonis?

I’m not entirely sure if they’re getting assigned one or getting to choose one.

I’m going to assume it’ll be someone they get to pick seeing there’s no obvious authority figure to hand them one.

It’s going to likely be a bad guy and one that isn’t currently tied up in anther feud. And that doesn’t leave many options. The only guys that come to mind for me are guys from other promotions. Perhaps someone from Triple A. Johnny has been champion in that promotion and has probably made enemies of guys like El Hijo de Fantasma or Texano.

4) Who’s Trevor Lee’s next challenger for the X Division title?

Trevor Lee has two men who have claim to his title. He’s had issues with Ishimori and when the Pro Wrestling NOAH athlete gets his hands on Lee, the title very well could be on the line. When Dezmond Xavier won the Super X Cup last summer, he earned himself an X Division championship opportunity.

They’ll both get an opportunity eventually. Which one will Trevor face first? Or will this end up in a triple threat match?

5) Why are Storm and Lashley calling out American Top Team?

I mean, c’mon already guys. They’ve made you look like idiots long enough. Just let it be.

Impact Wrestling airs tonight at 8 EST on Pop TV. Who’s watching?
