New Japan Pro Wrestling King of Pro-Wrestling 2017 results: Naito vs. Ishii, Okada vs. EVIL, and more

NJPW Global on Twitter

New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) are back again and we’re onto our last big show of the year with King of Pro-Wrestling. After this, the main event of Wrestle Kingdom will well and truly be locked in, and we’ll be on the road to the Tokyo Dome. Like all of New Japan’s other major events, the show will be broadcast worldwide on New Japan's streaming service, NJPW World.

We'll have the standard match recommendation posts later for those of us who can’t be up in the wee hours watching wrestling, but if you can, why not watch along with the best pro wrestling community on the internet?

Today’s action takes place in Tokyo's Ryogoku Sumo Hall, kicking off at a ripe 4AM Eastern / 1AM Pacific, and features the IWGP Heavyweight, IWGP Junior Heavyweight, IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team, and IWGP Tag Team Championships, as well as Tetsuya Naito’s G1 Climax winner title shot on the line, plus the usual undercard tag attractions.

Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, & SANADA) over Bullet Club (Bad Luck Fale, Leo Tonga, & Yujiro Takahashi) by pinfall with the mist and a schoolboy pin from BUSHI on Fale after an assist from Daryl Takahashi, avenging his prior destruction at the hands of the big man.

Chaos (Hirooki Goto & Toru Yano) over Suzuki-gun (Minoru Suzuki & Zack Sabre, Jr.) by count-out when Yano narrowly escapes being choked and tied to the barricade by Suzuki with a low blow.

Yano takes the NEVER Openweight Championship with him as he leaves, leaving Suzuki apoplectic and beating young lions down with a chair.

Junior tag title time, and we get a video package of Rocky Romero introducing his new proteges, Roppongi 3K... it’s Sho Tanaka & Yohei Komatsu, now billed as Sho & Yo!

Roppongi 3K (Sho & Yoh) over Funky Future (Ricochet & Ryusuke Taguchi) (c) by pinfall with a flapjack / reverse STO combo on Ricochet to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.

Rocky cuts a quick promo to congratulate his boys in victory and lead the crowd in chanting “Roppongi!” for them.

Killer Elite Squad (Davey Boy Smith, Jr. & Lance Archer) (c) over Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) and War Machine (Hanson & Ray Rowe) to retain the IWGP Tag Team Championship (Elimination Tornado Tag Team Match)

-Killer Elite Squad eliminated Guerrillas of Destiny by pinfall with Killer Bomb on Loa.

-Killer Elite Squad eliminated War Machine by pinfall with Killer Bomb through a table on Hanson

Bullet Club (Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega, & Marty Scurll) over Chaos (Beretta, Jado, & YOSHI-HASHI) by submission with the crossface chickenwing from Scurll on Jado.

To intermission and back we get a new vignette for the guy with the knife. He makes a bunch of tally marks in a book and we’re told that Switchblade is coming.

Juice Robinson & Kota Ibushi over Hiroshi Tanahashi & Togi Makabe by pinfall with Pulp Friction from Robinson on Makabe.

Will “Here Kitty Kitty” Ospreay over KUSHIDA (c) to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship by pinfall with the OsCutter.

Hiromu Takahashi comes down, presumably to restate his challenge, but Marty Scurll gets behind him and cuts him off with a snap of his fingers before he can speak! The Villain congratulates Will and says no matter how good Ospreay thinks he is, he’ll never be as good as him, and he wants the title.

They take their leave and Hiromu throws a fit momentarily before having a moment of clarity and falling back to the mat, laughing.

Tetsuya Naito (c) over Tomohiro Ishii by pinfall with Destino to retain the G1 Climax Championship Contract and his spot in the main event at Wrestle Kingdom.

Kazuchika Okada (c) over EVIL by pinfall with the Rainmaker to retain the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

Enjoy the show!
