Welcome to the weekly Rumor Look Back, where we look at the rumors from six months ago and see which played out as originally predicted. First let’s check off a few old rumors.
- Sasha Banks vs. Bayley is a future feud WWE is already laying the groundwork for and it could be the planned match for WrestleMania 33 in Orlando, considering the location and all the history between the two.
- It did not happen at Mania last year. It’ll happen eventually for sure, but not as quickly as this rumor speculated. (0/1)
- High on WWE’s list of potential talent acquisitions as the company’s in "signing mode"? Ring of Honor’s Adam Cole, whose contract is up in April.
- He’s in NXT as it’s top villain currently alongside Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish, collectively known as... sigh... the Undisputed Era... ERA. (1/1)
- Kurt Angle is saying he expects to take a physical for WWE by the end of this year, so don’t expect him in the ring for the company until 2018.
- It happened last week at TLC. Though my bet if Roman didn’t get sick, it wouldn’t have been this year. (0/1)
Now onto this week:
- It does look like WWE has quietly made Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt’s House of Horrors match at Payback a non-title match.
- That’s true. That allowed Orton to take the L. (1/1)
- According to SportsKeeda, WWE wants to bring Steve Austin’s Stone Cold Podcast back to the Network - and they want his first guest to be Undertaker.
- That has not happened. (0/1)
- TNA is expected to announce Summer tour dates next week - their first house shows since 2014.
- I went back and looked at google search results regarding “TNA tour” for this week and nothing was announced. (0/1)
- Allie, Braxton Sutter and Christina Von Eerie all recently signed new Impact Wrestling deals, per PWInsider.
- I can’t speak to who has what deals, but Christina Von Eerie was only there to lose her GFW Women’s title and then lose the rematch.
- Roman Reigns is expected to return to Monday Night Raw this week.
- According to the best live blog ever, he did not. Looks like they held him out their PPV match to sell the ambulance flipping beating from Braun. (0/1)
- It's still expected that Eva Marie will leave WWE when her contract is up. PW Insider notes the reason nothing has been done or said so far is because of her role on Total Divas.
- She is finished with the company. (1/1)
- The Bollywood Boyz will apparently work on SmackDown Live alongside Jinder Mahal as "The Singh Brothers."
- That is true. (1/1)
- Baron Corbin is the early favorite to win the Money in the Bank briefcase in June.
- He won it. He bumbled the cash in though. (1/1)
- Former TNA tag champ Crazzy Steve said farewell to Impact last Friday, and according to Wrestling Observer, is headed to WWE.
- He’s not in WWE. (0/1)
- Speaking of Impact, Jack Swagger hinted in an interview with WrestleZone he might head there to reunite with Dutch “Zeb Colter” Mantell when his 90 day non-compete with WWE expires.
- We’ll see if he shows up at Bound for Glory, but he’s not there now. It would be a signing, but not really an exciting one.
- There may be heat on Rusev for cutting his hair without getting permission from WWE, says Sportskeeda.
- Tough to tell because he’s never booked really strong anyway.
- Ember Moon’s injury from last week’s NXT tapings was a work; Squared Circle Sirens says she is fine.
- It was not. She missed the upcoming TakeOver. (0/1)
- Apparently the Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt House of Horrors match at Payback may be partially taped, with the end of the match happening in the arena but the beginning pre-taped somewhere else.
- That’s how it went down. Orton arrived at the house in his limo wearing jeans and elbow pads but it ended live in the arena. (1/1)
- Roman Reigns was at Raw this week but WWE chose not to use him for television, instead holding off on his return until Payback.
- That’s how it happened.
- WWE is apparently interested in Crazzy Steve, Gunner, Lio Rush, Donovan Dijak, and Kyle O'Reilly, all of which will likely end up with the company with the next few months.
- Poor Steve is the only one of this list not in WWE now. (Gunner is in NXT working some house shows and the Dijak signing was recently announced. The others have made their way to TV.) (4/5)
- PW Insider is reporting on a backstage "incident" involving Karen and Jeff Jarrett and Bob Ryder that took place a few days ago at the Impact tapings. Apparently it was bad but it looks like all sides are still working together for now.
- They didn’t work together much longer as Impact has parted ways with Jeff Jarrett. Recent reports is that he checked himself into a rehab facility.
- There’s whispers WWE has reached an agreement to buy the “Broken” gimmick from TNA, which could explain Matt Hardy’s increased use of catchphrases and mannerisms on TV.
- Yeah, this is not accurate. (0/1)
- It’s possible no titles will change hands this Sunday at Payback.
- Chris Jericho defeated Kevin Owens to win the US championship. Kevin won it back two days later. Alexa Bliss won the Raw Women’s championship from Bayley as well. (0/1)
- The only championship match outcome reportedly still undecided is Bayley & Alexa Bliss’.
- That was one of the two with a change.
- Eddie Edwards suffered a knee injury at last weekend’s Impact tapings. While it will require surgery, he’s not expected to miss too much time.
- Looking at Cagematch, he didn’t wrestle a bunch on May, but he didn’t lose a bunch of time. (1/1)
- According to the Observer, there's at least a possibility that Mauro Ranallo returns to WWE, despite everything that has happened.
- He did. I was surprised he did. But he’s the Voice of NXT currently. It fits him. (1/1)
- WWE is now trying to turn Charlotte babyface to become the lead on SmackDown Live.
- She is a babyface. Though she hasn’t been positioned at top of the SmackDown’s women’s division. (1/1)
- Chris Jericho is expected to take a hiatus from WWE after next Monday night's episode of Raw.
- Technically it was after the next Tuesday. But the hiatus happened. (1/1)
- There's speculation that the Miz vs. Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt vs. Finn Balor programs could change to Ambrose vs. Wyatt and Miz vs. Balor.
- That didn’t happen. (0/1)
- According to Wrestling Inc, Cody Rhodes will be signing with Ring of Honor.
- He did. (1/1)
This week: 14/23 - 61%
Overall: 1,813/3,318 - 54.6%
Have a great week, everyone!
