Since his return at Roadblock: End of the Line, Neville had been calling himself the King of the Cruiserweights. Tonight (Jan. 29, 2017) at the Royal Rumble, he had the chance to defeat champion Rich Swann to prove it.
And prove it he did.
Rich Swann came out swinging, likely upset that he’s become a bit of a forgotten man since Neville came back on a tear. But it wasn’t long until the King was able to take control, methodically picking apart the champ.
The punishment of Swann continued when the fight spilled outside as Neville tossed him against one barricade and then another.
But when he got Swann back in the ring and went to the top rope, Rich was able to his a kick to the jaw to repel the challenger. It gave Rich the time he needed to get going, including a sweet looking inverted 450 to the challenger on the floor. However a series of kicks to Neville’s head wasn’t enough to put him away.
Now it was Neville’s turn to survive a series of offensive maneuvers. Swann even dealt his finishing kick, but the King was too close to the ropes and got his foot on the lower one to stop the count.
Neville was able to fight back and hit a superplex, which he’s won some matches with, but Swann kicked out. His reprieve was brief, though, as Neville immediately locked in the Rings of Saturn forcing the champs to tap.
All hail the King of the Cruiserweights.
