As expected, WWE announced the following this morning:
WWE and Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release as of today, September 9, 2016.
Del Rio commented a short time later on Twitter:
My business relationship with @WWE has come to an end in good terms...thanks for the opportunities they gave me.

Termine mi relación con WWE
The second-generation luchador has been suspended since prior to SummerSlam, and reports surfaced after his Wellness Policy violation was announced that he’d already given notice of his intent to terminate the contract he signing in the Fall of 2015 when the suspension went into effect.
This ends the former WWE champion’s second stint with the company, in possibly more controversial fashion than his first, when he was fired for “unprofessional conduct” after confronting a WWE employee who allegedly made racist jokes about him.
Focus remains on Paige, his girlfriend, who is also suspended, and under contract with WWE for several years to come, but allegedly working with lawyers to negotiate her release due in part to the company’s handling of their relationship.
