Chad Gable out 2-4 weeks with injured MCL; American Alpha out of Backlash and SmackDown tag tournament final

WWE.com

The post-match attack by Jimmy & Jey Uso on Chad Gable has radically changed the SmackDown tag title picture, and the Backlash pay-per-view card where the tournament to crown the first blue brand champs was set to wrap up.

Commissioner Shane McMahon announced on Talking Smack moments ago that the American Alpha member has a sprained MCL and will be out for two-to-four weeks, meaning Gable & Jason Jordan will not be able to compete on Sunday, Sept. 11.

To replace the Alphas, Shane & General Manager Daniel Bryan decided on the fly that a new match would be made to determine Gable & Jordan’s replacements. Hype Bros and the Usos get a second shot at the finals, and will square off for the chance to face Heath Slater & Rhyno in Richmond, Virginia.

The disadvantage they face is that the winner will have to wrestle twice in one night, with the finals also set to take place at Backlash.

In reality, this is “storyline” and will be used to give American Alpha a hot feud against Jimmy & Jey going forward. It also helps fill out a three hour show which still only has six matches confirmed.
