Kicking off the latest episode of WWE NXT, General Manager William Regal made an announcement that will please fans of tag team wrestling, tournaments and the American Dream.
The brand will soon begin the second annual Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament. 16 teams will compete to succeed Samoa Joe & Finn Bálor as tourney kings. Regal did not specify when the first round begins, or who is in the 2016 version of the Dusty Classic (he said we’d begin to see brackets on social media in the coming days), but he did reveal the finals will take place at TakeOver: Toronto on Nov. 19, the night before Survivor Series.

In a change from last year, Regal also revealed the first round matches would take place on next week’s episode of NXT (premiering Oct. 5 on WWE Network). The inaugural Classic featured first and second round action at live events, for which we only saw glimpses on the weekly show.
Last year’s Classic played a big role in making acts like Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano, The Revival and American Alpha while also serving as the impetus for the NXT title feud which carried the show through this past Summer and Bálor’s call-up.
We’ll get you a bracket as soon as one is released.
In the meantime, who do you want to see in the tournament? Who’s your favorite to win?
Sound off below, Cagesiders.
UPDATE: We have our first match for Oct. 5...
