Tope 10: Lucha Underground (Sep 21, 2016)

Each and every episode of Lucha Underground features maneuvers, quotes, outfits, props, scenes, and stories that deserve recognition. That is where the Tope 10 comes in. This list shows appreciation for the moments which are more exciting than a flying tope.

If you are new to the Lucha Underground scene, you can catch it Wednesdays at 8pm ET/PT on the El Rey Network or buy seasons one, two, and three on iTunes. See if El Rey is available in your area.

If you haven't had a chance to watch this week's episode yet, check out the preview, live blog & open thread, recap, highlight package, and the Trios championship main event between Aerostar, Drago, Fenix and Jack Evans, PJ Black, Taya.

10. Matanza German suplexing Mack

Oof. Boom went Mack.

9. Stealing the spotlight

Look at these knuckleheads. Taya starts out strutting her stuff, only to have the spotlight intruded upon by Jack Evans being a ham and bickering with PJ Black. Once Taya parted the sea of buffoonery, she put on her pageant smile and strutted some more.

8. Bagel Bites!

Yum. The whole scene was ridiculous in a great way. It gave me a giggle to see Son of Havoc in pajama pants recuperating in his mom's basement as she prepared Bagel Bites. I also love that they were drinking Modelo beer. Yum once again.

7. Chavo Guerrero tooling El Dragon Azteca Jr.

El Dragon Azteca Jr. is a bit too brash for my taste, so it was amusing to see Chavo stretch him out so easily. I think I will be pulling for Chavo to be victorious in their match, and I'll be hoping Chavo teaches Pentagon DARK a lesson too. I never thought I would be rooting for a culero.

6. Mascarita Sagrada giving the finger

Mascarita displayed his feelings for Famous B as he and Son of Havoc were watching Famous B commercials on TV. I'm eager to see what plan they come up with for retribution. I hope it involves Pimpinela Escarlata, if only to be a foil to Beautiful Brenda.

5. "How's my foot taste? Pinche Fenix."

Johnny Mundo looked like a behemoth when he stormed the ring after the match. He delivered that humorous line while choking Fenix with his foot. I also got a laugh when he ole'd Sexy Star's drop kick.

4. Springboard hurricanrana

This gets major points for the unexpected nature of it. PJ Black was in control before Aerostar sprung to life with the surprise hurricanrana. That led to the rope-assisted Codebreaker for the win.

3. "You got a lil' something."

Johnny Mundo busted into Dario Cueto's office as Dario was hunched over doing some hardcore sniffing. Upon leaving, Taya was kind enough to alert Dario that he had a little something on his face. Their reactions to each other cracked me up. It also played on how Dario is always subtly trying to hit on Taya. Dario was grinning ear to ear as Taya became the replacement for Mundo in the Trios championship bout, then she crushed his cool guy facade when mentioning whatever was on his face. And of course, Dario decided to eat it.

2. Trios lucha attack

I'm a sucker for teamwork maneuvers.

1. Outside inside corkscrew body press

Very cool. Aerostar hasn't been featured much since season one, but he has quietly been stealing the show in his matches. I might not have noticed if I didn't write the Tope 10, but he always seems to grab two or three spots for each match he has. Kudos to the spaceman. Maybe he can rocket over to Son of Havoc's house in time for Bagel Bites.

In last week's poll, 75% of 112 votes claimed distrust of Captain Vasquez. Only time will tell if her side is one of good virtue.

How does this week's Tope 10 stack up to your list? Any favorites not included? If you were late to the viewing party, feel free to share your thoughts about anything in the episode. While waiting for next week, listen to Melissa Santos share her thoughts on the Temple.
