Every year, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), the West Coast’s most well known independent promotion, presents the Battle of Los Angeles (BOLA). Along with the DDT4 tag tournament, it’s one of their signature events, and the tournament brings in some of the biggest names in non-WWE wrestling every year.
The 2016 edition, the 12th annual, features 24 men who will compete over the first two nights of the tournament for a shot at Sunday’s quarterfinal & semi-final rounds, a berth in the Triple Threat final, and a chance to join past BOLA winners like Davey Richards, Kenny Omega, Low Ki, El Generico, Adam Cole, and Ricochet.
PWG is one of the few indies that doesn’t stream their shows online (they are good with quickly releasing DVDs, however), and tickets to see it live in Reseda, California sold out in minutes, but an event as big as BOLA deserves the live results treatment.
We’ll update those as they come after the 8PM Pacific/11PM Eastern bell time.
Feel free to use the comments to discuss them before, during, or after the show!
2016 Battle of Los Angeles First Round Matches:
Marty Scurll over Pentagón, Jr. by submission with the crossface chickenwing.
Ricochet over Jeff Cobb by pinfall with a small package reversal of Tour of the Islands.
John Hennigan over Matt Sydal by pinfall with Starship Pain.
Will Ospreay over Fénix by pinfall with OsCutter.
Zack Sabre, Jr. over Tommy End by submission with something probably quite elaborate and painful, given that I can’t source what it was at press time.
Chris Hero over Jushin Liger by pinfall with a series of elbow strikes.
Non-Tournament Six Person Tag Team Match:
Adam Cole & the Young Bucks over Dalton Castle &
the BoysreDRagon by pinfall with double Meltzer Drivers.
