The Four Horsewomen of NXT — Becky Lynch, Bayley, Charlotte, and Sasha Banks — are now all members of the WWE main roster, two of them champions of the Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live brands, respectively. The other two are right at the top level as title challengers. They are, put simply, the best of the best in the women’s division.
They’ve also done wonders for the perception of women within the company, both behind-the-scenes and on-screen. They’ve yet to headline a main roster pay-per-view but Lynch, the SmackDown women’s champion, told Gorilla Position (via talkSPORT) on a conference call recently that she thinks they could ALL headline WrestleMania 33 next year in Orlando:
“I don’t see a reason why we all couldn’t main event WrestleMania next year. That’s the next step. Once you’ve reached one goal you’re onto the next and we’ve got to keep working hard to achieve that. I never really stop to celebrate each step, because I’m always looking to what’s next, but it’s one thing to get to a certain level but we have to also maintain that. But you never know what will happen, it would be an amazing moment for all of us for sure.”
That may sound unlikely based solely on the history of WWE but we could be closer to this than you think. The WWE Network has changed the way the company does business, namely with what matches/stars can headline major shows. With less reliance on PPV buys, it opens the door to taking more chances.
Like putting four of the best female wrestlers in the world in the main event of a WrestleMania.
Maybe?
