CM Punk cries at post-fight press conference after UFC 203: ‘I lost and it sucks’

Despite zero experience in mixed martial arts, even on an amateur level, CM Punk climbed inside the Octagon at UFC 203 last night (Sat., Sept. 10, 2016) at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio to fight Mickey Gall in a welterweight match-up. It was a courageous decision, considering what could happen to him.

Ultimately, it’s what did happen to him. He was badly beaten up. In fact, he was never competitive for the two minutes and 14 seconds the fight lasted.

But while so many from his past and present are congratulating him for risking this very outcome, he’s having a hard time with it. He held up okay for the first part of the post-fight press conference but once he was asked if he was proud of his performance, he broke down (at the 7:30 mark):

"I don't think... there's probably an alternate reality where I win and I'm still disappointed in myself. That's just who I am. I'm just really, really hard on myself. I lost and it sucks. And it was lopsided, and it's upsetting but I know I'm better than that."

He then struggled to keep it together when asked what his wife, former WWE star AJ Lee, said to him after his loss:

"You guys are all going to make me cry. You bastards. She just said she was proud of me, you know?"

Feel how you will about Punk and the circumstances surrounding this fight, he made himself completely vulnerable for this. So while it’s clear that this bout never should have happened, it is, at the very least, commendable Punk would go through with it.
