Rumor Look Back: January 31 - February 6, 2016

New, comments

Welcome to the Rumor Look Back, where we go back six months and see how the rumors we were fretting about played out. Let’s just right to it.

February 1, 2016

  • Brock Lesnar is expect to work more matches on television in the future?

  • I take this to mean free TV and not PPV matches (though it’d be false if this were the case too). And I don’t think Brock Lesnar has worked any TV matches since he returned in 2012. (0/1)

  • There’s speculation that Team B.A.D. will break up tonight on Raw or at least Sasha Banks will break away.

February 2, 2016

  • There doesn't look to be long-term plans to keep Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch together as a team, but much of the Divas booking is in flux right now.

  • They weren’t together much after the Fastlane tag team match. Afterwards, they geared up for the triple threat Women’s Title match at WrestleMania. (1/1)

  • Mr. 450 has hinted in interviews that he plans to return to NXT in 2016.

  • I honestly had to look him up because I don’t remember him in NXT. He was in some fill in spots but nothing more. He hasn’t been in NXT in 2016 but we’ll give it the entire year.

February 3, 2016

  • The word going around is that Roman Reigns vs. Triple H, Bruan Strowman vs. Undertaker, and Bray Wyatt vs. Brock Lesnar are the top matches for WrestleMania.

  • The Wyatts didn’t even have a scheduled match, Roman and Triple H faced off in the main event, Taker faced Shane McMahon, and Brock worked Dean Ambrose. (1/3)

  • It does indeed appear as though Brie Bella will be getting a title shot against Charlotte at the Fastlane event, apparently with the thinking that Nikki Bella's neck surgery is sympathetic enough to put her in the title picture while also giving them a story for Total Divas.

  • The match happened. We’ll have to wait and see if this is a Total Divas (or Bellas) story. It probably will be. (1/1)

  • That said, Brie is not in the plans for WrestleMania 32, where is still looks like Sasha will be getting a shot at the title.

  • I read this as Brie isn’t in the major women’s plans for Mania and not completely off the card. She was in a pre-show Total Divas vs. Bad and Blonde match. Sasha did get a shot at the title (alongside Becky Lynch). (2/2)

  • AJ Styles will start working house shows this weekend.

  • He did. (1/1)

February 4, 2016

  • There is some hope that John Cena can recover in time to do a match with Undertaker at WrestleMania 32. Maybe all the Braun Strowman talk ultimately won't matter, though there's also talk of Undertaker doing a tag match that does involve Strowman.

  • Undertaker didn’t work Cena nor in a tag team match with Brauny. (0/2)

  • In the latest Observer, it’s noted Sami Zayn is expected to be called up soon. His last NXT match will be at TakeOver: Dallas.

  • True on both accounts. He debuted full time prior to WrestleMania on March 7. Dallas was his last NXT match. (2/2)

  • Lucha Underground won’t be doing a major show WrestleMania weekend as was floated as an idea.

  • They didn’t. (1/1)

  • Apparently TNA approached Lucha Underground suggesting a joint show together and was turned down.

  • We may have laughed then but I would kill for Broken Matt Hardy in the Temple.

February 5, 2016

  • Sheamus should be back working matches on WWE television within a couple of weeks at most.

  • He was back on Feb. 15. (1/1)

  • Sasha Banks getting paired up with Becky Lynch may be to get her support from the mainstream fans who cheer for Lynch. This would serve to help Sasha become the biggest babyface heading into a big program with Charlotte, according to the Observer. It's also possible a triple threat is planned for WrestleMania 32.

  • The triple match was the way they went. (1/1)

  • The Observer notes that Shinsuke Nakamura will get a new name in NXT. WWE also didn’t buy the rights to “Subconscious.”

  • Whoever loses in the Finn Bálor vs. Samoa Joe match at NXT TakeOver: Dallas is getting called up to the main roster the fastest.

  • You’d think that’d be the case, but it wasn’t. Bálor won at Dallas. Then he feuded with Joe another few months before getting the call up. Joe hasn’t appeared on main roster TV yet. (0/1)

February 6, 2016

  • There’s renewed talk of WWE and Hulk Hogan reconciling sooner rather than later, whatever that means.

  • Right now, I’m taking that to mean within six months. And he’s not back. Probably for the better keeping their distance during that trial. (0/1)

  • According to the Observer, WWE originally booked Dean Ambrose to eliminate AJ Styles from the Royal Rumble instead of Kevin Owens.

  • I thought when KO eliminated Styles, that would lead to a feud between them eventually but that never happened. It won’t in the near future due to the brand split. However, Ambrose/Styles is a program we will could and probably will get soon.

  • The next NXT tour of the UK could be in June.

  • Both Shad Gaspar and JTG would like to return to the WWE but as of now, it looks like there’s no interest.

  • I’m going to sit on this just a bit longer to see if WWE calls on them to fill up the brand split rosters soon. Who would like to see Cryme Tyme back?
