WWE has been building to a match between Big Show and former NBA great Shaquille O’Neal for some time now, starting when the two squared off in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32. Since then, both have done some promoting in interviews while also running an angle at the ESPY Awards just last month that featured Show laying down the official challenge for a match at WrestleMania 33 next year in Orlando.
Now, in an interview with Shanghai Daily, Show seems to have confirmed it’s happening:
At next year’s Wrestlemania in Orlando, Wight will also come face to face with former NBA basketball player Shaquille O’Neal, another sporting heavyweight, for a match that might just shake the foundations of pro wrestling.
“We’ll have one heck of a match and we’ll see what’s up. We’ll give the fans a treat.”
It makes sense, considering WWE makes sure to involve a celebrity or two at WrestleMania each year and Shaq has long wanted the match.
In the same interview, Show talked about coming to the end of the road in his pro wrestling career:
“I’ve had a 21-year career. I’m looking forward to retirement actually. It’d be nice to actually see my family. I’ve earned my limited schedule and now it’s the twilight for me. I get to do media, talk to fans, and tour the world and go out with a nice casual wave goodbye; and I’m happy with that.”
What better way to go out (maybe) than a match against Shaq?
