WWE Raw preview (Aug. 22, 2016): The Red Brand

WWE Instagram

Third night in a row in Barclays. Considering how off-script many of the same fans were last night, reactions for Raw should be very interesting...

The Headliner

Most of the interest will be focused on Brock Lesnar and the ending of SummerSlam. At best, we might get a(nother) suspension angle to explain why he’s not around for the next few months.

This is a show where they’re advertising several names tied to the SmackDown Live brand, such as John Cena, AJ Styles and WWE World champion Dean Ambrose, so look for the blue brand’s Commissioner to make an appearance to further that angle (assuming it is an angle) - even if the Beast Incarnate or his advocate doesn’t show up.

The Title Scene

Raw has its top title, and love or hate the Universal championship’s design, you can’t say they didn’t pull the trigger and push a fresh face to the moon by giving him an undefeated run, and clean pins of AJ Styles, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins on his way en route to claiming said belt. The reign of Finn Bálor, and the Demon King, has begun. Who will challenge him first?

Charlotte has reclaimed her Women’s title, and WWE.com’s preview is playing up lower back issues for the demoted Boss, Sasha Banks. If rumors are correct, Banks is leaving the ring for a while, but that same preview is teasing retaliation by Sasha on Raw. Things that make you go hmmm...

The New Day held onto their tag titles, but they didn’t get the win against Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson, because Big E’s return triggered a disqualification. Will the trio of positivity finally be able to put the good brothers in their rear view now that their powerlifting friend is back, or might Kofi Kingston or Xavier Woods come down with a case of ringpostitis?

Not only has United States champion Rusev been unable to defend his wife’s honor, at last night’s pay-per-view (PPV), he couldn’t even defend his title. A vicious Roman Reigns rampage left him unable to compete... provided the Bulgarian Brute’s okay, will we see this match officially start on Raw?

Other stuff to keep an eye on:

- JeriKO’s relatively new friendship held together long enough for them to defeat Enzo Amore & Big Cass on their home turf. Will Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens pursue tag team glory moving forward, or go their separate ways now that they’ve dealt with their common annoyance.

- Speaking of tag teams with questionable futures, the Dudleyz can’t seem to get on the same page these days. Could the be headed to splitsville? What about the makeshift tandem which put them down on the Kickoff yesterday, Sami Zayn & Neville? The latter man is probably waiting for more news about the Cruiserweight Division, but what about the Likeable One?

- Now that Holy Foley has debuted, will the GM seek help with getting rid of his clown problem (This won’t be on the show, I just needed somewhere to talk about how annoying Frank the Clown is)?

It’s the SummerSlam fallout show!

What will you be looking for on Raw tonight?
