WWE SummerSlam 2016 Results: Miz crushes Apollo Crews’ Intercontinental title dreams

The Intercontinental title feud took a bit of a backseat on SmackDown Live after Apollo Crews earned the #1 contender spot in a battle royal shortly after the Draft. The most significant interaction of the feud occurred during a commercial break last week.

Miz, our champion, certainly had plenty of air time - usually running talk show segments that furthered the WWE title story. And there was one moment where he called his opponent Apollo Creed. If you missed that, they played it three times leading into their SummerSlam match in Brooklyn tonight (Aug. 21).

If the match was supposed to be an afterthought, no one told Crews and Miz. They worked hard in a short match - and after the shocking title change in the Women’s title match moments before. Crews got in a ton of impressive looking offense, but a distraction from Maryse allowed the champ to hit a Skull-Crushing Finale... and continue his run as Intercontinental champ.
