WHO?
Allen Neal Jones, aka "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles. 5’11", 218 pounds from Gainesville, Georgia. Age 39. Wait… really? 3-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion. 2-time TNA World Heavyweight Champion. 6-time TNA X Division Champion. The first ever TNA wrestler to be ranked #1 in the world in the annual PWI 500. 2-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion. PWG World Champion. RPW British Heavyweight Champion. ROH Pure Champion. ROH World Tag Team Champion. Married with three children. Trained by Rick Michaels and Perry Saturn. Once was Mr. Olympia. Once wrestled for WCW. No, seriously. Was going to go to the WWF in 2002, but turned it down when it required him to locate. Once the face of TNA… well, if you know, TNA took care of him as such. Debuted in the 2016 Royal Rumble. Member of The Club. The Bullet Club. Maybe The Hair Club For Men. Yes, that still exists. Hobbies include listening to Christian hip hop, video games, and beating up John Cena.
John Felix Anthony Cena, aka John Cena. 6'1", 251 pounds from West Newbury, MA, now residing in Tampa, Florida. 12-time WWE Champion. 3-time World Heavyweight Champion. 3-time WWE United States Champion. 4-time tag team champion, Money in the Bank winner in 2012. 2-time Royal Rumble winner (2008 and 2013). Three-time WWE Superstar of the Year (2009, 2010, 2012). Five-time Wrestlemania main eventer. Face of the WWE still because the Roman Reigns experiment isn’t quite working out. Once known as The Doctor of Thuganomics. Chain gang soldier, leader of the Cenation, the Champ. Was married once. Actor. Rapper. Failed rapper. Speaks Mandarin Chinese, possibly fluently. Hobbies include granting wishes, dating a Bella while avoiding marriage to her for some reason, appearing in your favorite viral video unexpectedly, and appearing on your favorite television show with one button on the suit buttoned up. Either button all the suits or don’t. Seriously.
WHY ARE THEY FIGHTING?
Perhaps for the right to be the next man in line for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Is it still a dream match if this is the third go-around?
WHAT’S AT STAKE?
Pride. And lots of it. And for Allen Jones Styles, possibly his stature as a main-event player. It’s not hyperbole. Just look at every significant feud Cena’s had in recent memory.
HISTORY
I’d tell you everything about what’s gone on between the two this summer, but honestly, this video does it justice far better than I can.
Last week, John Cena acquired some. A whole lot, actually. Alberto Del Rio it seems acquired too much, but that’s a different story.
To say that AJ doesn’t want John around anymore is an understatement. And if he can’t get rid of him physically, he’ll do so psychologically. Good luck with that. Adult fans have been trying that for a decade, with no success.
WHO WINS?
In a perfect world, AJ Styles gets what he wants. He beats John Cena, he brags about it on Smackdown LIVE! and either John of West Newbury, Massachusetts is proven to be a liar or a loser.
WINNER
But alas, this is not a perfect world where everyone can beat up John Cena. And here’s something else: John hasn’t won a singles match at Summerslam since… 2007, the year he almost went undefeated on PPV (his only loss was via disqualification to Randy Orton at Unforgiven, ironically, Cena’s final PPV that year before he went on the DL).
