Here’s a fun tidbit from the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required but recommended):
The one thing consistent is the Cruiserweight Classic has been ahead, and sometimes significantly, ahead of NXT for viewers, and the episodes also have more legs.
It’s also noted that the latest episode of the Cruiserweight Classic was the second most-watched show on the entire WWE Network over the prior week (NXT was number three), behind only the Stone Cold Podcast with Dean Ambrose. This latest episode is getting rave reviews and featured a “Match of the Year” contender in Kota Ibushi vs. Cedric Alexander, who got one hell of a seal of approval from Triple H.
The structure of the show is such that viewership should only improve as we get closer to the final. This is especially impressive given the relative star power of NXT, with top feuds like Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Samoa Joe and Bayley vs. Asuka getting close to big match-ups at the next Takeover special in Brooklyn.
